Does anyone out there have a child with the patience to teach my 7 year old how to play chess.  Even an adult as long as the patients is there.  I was never taught .  I am certainly capable of learning along with her, but would prefere that she is taught by someone who knows the game well.  She has been asking and we have even purchased a chess set.  We have set the board up and tried to play several times but neither of us really knows what we're doing.   HELP!

Hey Amy!
We are in the same boat.  Ben really wants to learn to play and I just don't know how to teach him.  I will keep an ear out and start asking around too!  Let me know if you find anyone.
See you soon,
Rebekah

That's great!  They would be good practice for one-another.  I'll let you know what I find.  See you Monday

My just turned 7 year old son recently learned how to play. I know how to play, but not well. What about a chess club, maybe meeting at the library?

Chess games @ the library sound awesome as soon as she learns.  Are either of you able to help or do you have suggestions as to who or where to go?

I meant to mention in my last post, we have the Chessmaster 9000 software. It has some great tutorials and nice graphics. I'd recommend it. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obi.....%3DUTF8%26v%3Dglance

I just saw an ad in the latest(March/April) issue of New Mexico Kids for a chess camp. They start at age 5.

I'll hunt around for the magazine and find the info...not sure what I did with it.

Here is the url: http://www.chesscamp.com

And here is the url for their Albuquerque session:

If you scroll to the bottom of the page, there is a paragraph about a parents only class.

Looks awesome!  A little pricey though us right now.  Maybe in the future though, Thanks!

Sorscha loves chess.  We play on a Lord of the Rings board.  I get completely confused what piece is what because they are all characteres from the movie.  Several years ago she taught herself with this game.

http://www.liveandlearn.com/educational/quickchess.html

It is basically half the board so you do not need to concentrate on so many pieces.  The game is also then very short (quick - hence the name) so she never got frustrated.

Always havin fun,
Crystal and Sorscha
