My name is Kari Barrera and I have three small children ranging from 7 to 1 year old.  We live in virginia and have been officially homeschooling for just over a year now.  The laws here are quite strict but still workable.  My husband and his family all live in Albuquerque and most of mine is in Tucson.  We are trying to relocate back to Albuquerque, which is not easy!!  Jobs are hard to come by!  Luckily we can move anytime as homeschoolers and not feel like we are pulling our kids away.  I will TREMENDOUSLY miss the resources I have out here, living only a few miles from Washington, DC.  But Im sure we will visit as much as possible.

Im excited to learn more about your group as we do belong to a great Co-op here.  I apologize for being a lurker, as I am mainly interested in learning about what is available out in NM.  Im very excited and hope to be there before my oldest is eight!  lol

Hi Kari, Well, I don't think Albuquerque can compare to the DC area for cultural/educational resources. But... Albuquerque is a great small city where you can pop over to the zoo or aquarium for the morning with no advance planning required -- ie, you'd have no problems with traffic on the way, you could park right next to the front gate, and no crowds once you got in. That's what I love about this town when I compare it to Boston, where I moved from. Hope to see you someday soon!

Thanks for the reply Elizabeth!!  I love the zoo and aquarium out there.  Especially the play area next to the aquarium.  My boys love it there!!  I will hopefully hear soon as to the probability of our move.  I hate feeling so in limbo, but it will all work out Im sure!

I have three kids...
Greyson who is six almost seven (he has Aspergers Syndrome)
Gavin who is four almost five
Maggie who is 16 months old.

Thank you again for the welcome reply.  I received the newsletter and it sounds like you guys definitely keep busy!

Well my dh is feeling a bit discouraged about our move but I am trying to keep the motivation going.  He was trying for a transfer, but now it seems we will have to try for a different company out there with you guys.  Im not giving up though.  I love the laws for homeschoolers out there.  They seem so free and easy to comply with.  Plus having all our family out there is a huge incentive!  Cross your fingers (I know, you dont even know us)  But hopefully we will get to come!  SOON!!!!!

Hi there!

We just moved last week to Albuquerque from Seattle! We love it here and are looking forward to meeting new people and homeschoolers! My kids are about the same ages as yours!  I'd like to keep in touch with you and hope that you will be able to move here! Moving is quite an adventure! Take care and keep me posted!

Hey Denise
Thanks so much for saying hi.  I feel like I am just batteling to get us there.  My dh grew up in Alb until leaving for college in AZ where we met.  I didnt want to move back there after we were married, I thought it would be good for us to start our life more independent from such a large close family.  Now ironically enough it is that large close family that I want to get back too, and HE is dragging his feet.  Mainly economy issues and financial, but UGH, I cant wait to return!!!  I will keep you posted for sure, and hopefully I will get to meet you ladies when we FINALLY get there.  The people on this board have been so welcoming and friendly.  It just makes me more and more excited about getting out there!!!!!!!
