Hello,
My name is Amy and I'm new to homeschooling.  I have 3 children.  Kate 16 is enrolled in a Charter, Marianna 6, is home with me in K, and Michael is 3.  We Live on the Westside and are looking for educational activities as well as playgroups and/or new friends.  I LOVE HOMESCHOOLING and plan to continue.  Now that I've gotten my "feet wet" with math and Language/phonics, I'm looking for a fun science program to add for 1st.  We find ourselves finished for the day within 2-3 hours and Mari is craving interactions with friends!  Her current friends are all in public school!  We hope to hear from some of you soon and I'm anxious to make new friends...homeschool moms that can relate!

Hi Amy, My name is Rebekah and I also live on the Westside.  I have a 6 yr old son Ben and a 3 yr old son Ethan.  We homeschool in cooperation with another family that have 2 girls ages 7 and 4.  If you would like to get together sometime we can plan it.  I know how hard it can be when they are really wanting to see some people their own age.  You can call me at 922-8545.

Hi, Amy! Welcome to the message board. I have a couple of kids near your children's ages, an almost 6yo and a 2.5yo. We live in NE Heights, though.

You mentioned that you were looking for science material. I think there was some discussion recently about math and science curriculum on the board -- here's a link: http://www.abqhomeschool.com/cgi-bin/blah/Blah.pl?,b=1.5,v=display,m=1101858504. Our co-op had a meeting recently that was basically a show-and-tell for curriculum. We enjoyed it so much we hope to do another, but probably not until this spring.

I'm not sure if you were looking only for playdates or if you wanted to join a support group. If the latter, our web site has a list of groups that we know about in NM (including our own, of course!). It's at http://www.abqhomeschool.com/support.html. We have many members on the west side of town.

Best of luck to you in your homeschooling career! I love homeschooling, too. It's great to be there watching our kids blossom, isn't it?

Rebekah, Okay, I feel silly asking but, what is co-op homeschooling?  You school together with another family?  Do you do this daily or is it a subject thing, like doing science together?  I am, as new at this as I sound, so I'm sorry if my questions sound silly I would love to get together I'll call Tuesday. Thanks

Elizabeth, I hopped on the board link you sent...helpful! I was really interested in the "curriculum share" that was mentioned. When you get together with others and get a quick look at the other programs out there.  That is VERY cool and I would be very interested if you hear of another.  I would be willing to hold one myself but we don't know any other homeschoolers yet!  I have one freind that helped me to get started but I'm more comfortable now with her learning stlye and want to make sure that I am using what's best for us!?  You know what I mean! Anthow let me know, and as for the NE...we have car will travel!

Amy, if you're interested in joining our group, we have plenty of other kindergartners. Click on http://www.abqhomeschool.com/join.html to find out how to join us. We sponsor several activities per week: tours & fieldtrips, classes, parties, park days, crafts, mom's night out, the curriculum share, etc).

Hi Amy,  My name is Carrie.  We live on the westside (Coors and Central not westside like Rio Rancho), but we do travel.  My two girls are almost 6 and almost 3.  We love playdates.  We've been going to a park date every other Thursday way out west by Paseo and Unser.  Anything outside is a hit with us.  Zoo--park--.  Let us know if you'd like to get together.  Carrie

Carrie, Thanks for the invite! I can't place that park, but it sounds like it may be near where I live.  Give me a call, maybe we can meet up.  My Thursdays are free after school in the am until 3:15.  We are outside people as well and hold a zoo membership!  Come on....SPRING !! 922-1221.   Amy
