Hello my name is Lynn. We have been home schooling our 2 kids since Jan. 1st of this year. They are William age 12 and Melissa age 6. We moved here from Nevada in March of 2004 and so far love living here in NM. My husband Lonigan and I have been married for 13 yrs come June 3rd. We are also currently looking for a church to join. Looking for a new church is proving to be very difficult. I was raised Luthern and my husbands family is Catholic even though he has never participated. So the ideal church would be something that really doesnt have a set name to it, by name I mean, Catholic, luthern, Babitist and so forth. My kids are doing so much better so far since taking them out of PS. They were very discouraged by other kids and the enviroment that is was affecting every aspect of life.
Well I can't really think of anything else at this time. I hope to meet a lot of you in the months to come. Have a good weekend.
Lynn, nice to here from another family that has tried and rejected APS. We moved here 5 years ago from MD. We have, since the APS experience, placed our oldest in a wonderful Charter School and our two youngest, girl 6 and boy 3 are home with me. I am new here as well. I didn't start homeschooling until this year. Feel free to call me @ 922-1221. We live on the West side.
Hi Lynn. My name is Carrie. We've lived here on and off most of our lives, but constantly since having kids. My daughter started this school year in Charter kindergarten, but I only lasted till the end of the first grading period before pulling her. My daugher will be six next week so if you'd like a get together for the girls, were always eager to get out. Sorry not older kids for your son, I have an almost 3 year old girl. Hope to see you at a coop function soon. We live on the west side.
Hi Lynn. We have lived here for a little over a year now, however my husband was born and raised here until he left for college. We lived in Michigan for 5 1/2 yrs prior to moving here and needless to say the public schools there are excellent compared to APS. We have a daughter 16 at La Cueva and she is doing fine. However, we just pulled our son 10 from APS elementary due to poor teacher and principal. He is doing great with homeschool so far. As for church, I was also raised Lutheran and my husband Catholic. Like you, we did not want each other to feel pressured to switch denominations so we agreed to find a non-denominational christian church. We found a Congregational Church (UCC-United Church of Christ) in Michigan and loved it. We have visited a UCC church here in New Mexico and found it to be just as warm and loving as our church but smaller. If you go you will find that most members are from other denominations with similar situations to ours or were just fed up with their original denomination. There are only a few in Albuquerque, we visited Church of the Good Shephard in the Far NE Heights. I know there is an older one near the University and also one in Rio Rancho I believe. Although I have to admit we do not go on a regular basis we intend to once we decide where exactly where we will live permanently. We are considering a move to the West Side or Rio Rancho so will probably visit the RR church there before settling here at Good Shephard. Hope this helps.
I can't wait to meet some of you soon. Today we are doing Language Arts, spelling and Art. Melissa has a small cough so she is a little medicine heady atm. so we are taking an easy day. Thank you for telling me about Church of the Good Shephard I will be sure to mention it to my husband when he gets home this afternoon. Since we live on the NE side that would be a good start. Well I have to be going Melissa needs lunch and William wants to make it for her. Will talk to you all soon again I hope.
