Hi Everyone!  I'm so glad I found this website.  I started homeschooling my daughter Ashley age 12 this year (5th grade).  Now we are contemplating sending her back to public school.  She really misses the interaction of kids at school but enjoys learning at home.  So I am hopeful that a homeschool group might be the answer.  We live on the westside in Ventana Ranch.  I would welcome any advice.

Thanks

Michelle

Michelle,  our daughter Marianna is 6 and we pulled her out in October of this school year.  We live here  in Ventana Ranch also.  I know there is an age difference but we too experienced "social withdrawl". It gets better !! Feel free to give us a call.

There are others on the board who live on the westside and hopefully someone can steer you to an age-appropriate support group where your daughter can make some friends. You might find a group that works for you listed on our web site's support group page: http://www.abqhomeschool.com/suppgrps.html. It's far from a complete listing of the groups in the area, I'm afraid. Good luck!

I have a Junior Girl Scout troop for Homeschoolers.  If you would like to check us out, we meet most Fridays from 10:30 - noon at the Girl Scout Council office, (near Osuna and Jefferson - just off I-25).  Let me know if you are interested in more information.  You can also check out our website at http://www.PamelaGrimm.com/3105.

It's a bit of a drive, but there are some thirteen year old girls in the east mountains.  I have one of them.  Lisa Silva would be a good one to direct you to social life for older kids.  If you look through the board, you are sure to find one of her posts, from there you can get contact information to email her and ask for guidance.

Hi I also live in Ventana Ranch... I have a 6 yr old boy, not much help with that girl talk!  But I do know that there are two homeschooling groups in Rio Rancho that are close enough to us and they have a wide range of children... Additionally, there is the Science Club that meets on Mondays (we will be joining that group in the fall) and we also go to the Sports and Recreation at Mariposa Park two day a week (there are about 30-40 kids)....

It is so important to get that interaction and you are the 4th person I've heard say their 5th grade daughter is wanting more interaction with girls their own age! Must be something about that age!   Don't give up on finding a group though... There are so many to try!

If you want to email me at vandyvic@yahoo.com, I'll be happy to get you more information on any or all of the groups!
