all! My name is Denise and my husband and I want to homeschool our children. We have a 4-year-old son, Monty, and an 8-month-old daughter, Amelie. They are both terribly prone to pneumonia (anytime of the year) and they are both asthmatic and have allergies.
My sister-in-law has homeschooled her children since before I met her and she is very inspiring about homeschooling (although she is very much on the Christian conservative side). My husband and I had a very hard time in school with bullies and all of the social problems... and I dealt with a good deal of racism and persecution (I was one of the few Caucasians in the town I grew up in, and everyone hated me for being Catholic). We don't want our children to go through this.
We are VERY adamant about making sure that religion plays no part in the homeschooling we choose to do.
I look forward to learning a lot from this board and getting to know everyone here!

Hi there, Denise. Welcome to the board! I replied to your question about teaching your child to read on the other thread. You'll probably meet many non-religious homeschoolers in Albuquerque as you come to know the homeschooling community.
I can see that you feel strongly that religion should play no part of your homeschooling. While it's fine to share how you feel, please also keep in mind that on this board we work very hard to be accepting of everyone's homeschooling (and parenting) choices. Sometimes being too outspoken can hurt someone's feelings. |

Thank you all for the wonderful welcome!
I understand about being open minded about other's beliefs... I guess I wanted to make our position clear out of the gate. I won't mention it again |

Hi,
I'm Leon. My wife and I took our 11 year old out of public school because she has been labeled as Special Education. A number of people I know who work for the public school system have told me that once a child is labeled "Special Education" they just promote them to the next grade no matter what.
Of course, those with traditional educations and thinking are saying - NO NO NO.
I've learned more out of school and on my own than I ever did in public school. High School was 4 years of Huh???

| Welcome Leon. What a wonderful journey you have infront of you. I completely agree about learning more out of school. Everything I have ever needed to learn, I learned in the real world. Classroom education never really worked for me. |
