My 4 year old twins are in need of some speech therapy. I have been hoping they would outgrow their stuttering and other speech problems. I am unsure about going through the schools, and wonder if anyone knows of a provate speech therapist or some ideas of things we could do at home?
Thanks so much

Tina,
I have used Explorabilities (they are on Copper 268-798 for speech therapy for my son.  I liked them but have also heard very good things about Kidpower (Pan American Fwy NE 888-4469).  You could call them to see if they take your insurance.  They will do their own speech evaluation and write a report with their recommendations.  As a home schooling parent you are entitled to anxillary services through the public schools but you may need to get Parents Reaching Out to help you.  I would go the insurance route if I were you but going through the schools has no out of pocket expense.

Hope that helps.

My kids also go to ExploreAbilities, they are great. They do have a 4-6 month waitlist, and I hear that's case for other places as well. So I would recommend calling as soon as you can.

Thank you ladies, as soon as I find out what insurance we will have I will check those out. I might call and see what my options are. I wonder if I need a doctors recomendation?

I did just have their hearing tested and they did great. So I feel this is our next step.

Thanks so much.... everyone on this list has been so helpful. It is making our transition much easier!

Tina, there was also a recent discussion on speech therapy that was originally on the co-op only part of the message board, which I just moved under Homeschool discussion. You might also want to check that out. The link is: http://www.abqhomeschool.com/cgi-bin/blah/Blah.pl?,b=1.7,m=1124474686.
