Hi all! Ally here. My husband and I are planning a move to ABQ. in about a year. We would like to rent before  we consider buying.

We are considering Rio rancho or east mtns. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for either of these places?

We have a 2.5 yr.old (3.5, by then) whom we are planning to homeschool. I've been a long time viewer of this board, but infrequent participant. I know i would love to meet some of you and your children and exchange homeschool info., but we have been living north of Santa fe, so that hasn't been possibly. Thanks to you all.

Hi Ally!

We moved here about 1 year ago and live in the Los Padillas/Pajarito area of Bernallilo Cty. Be sure to consider any commuting your family will need to do. Rio Rancho is far from the interstates.

Where north of Santa Fe do you live? We travel to Santa Fe often and actually are considering a move to that area in the future.

Hi Ally - We moved to ABQ in July.  We live in the East Mountains.  We love it!  But we like a more rural, private area.  It's quiet out here.  If you and your family is into wildlife, then you will be in heaven!!!  Tijeras & Cedar Crest are more mountainy.  Moriarty and Edgewood are more flat.  (I have heard people say that their realtors told them there wasn't much for sale out here - don't believe them!)

If you like a neighborhood setting with lots of kids, then you would probably be very happy with Rio Rancho area. There seems to be lots of young families moving there.  It seems to be a major hub!!  Lots of great stores and resturants.

The Rio Grande area by the river is gorgeous too!  It's a cool area!  It has lots of character!!!

Hope this helps!

Monica and Tammy,

Thank you both so much for the info. We were there today checking out the areas and found your insights to be accurate and helpful.

We liked the east mtns. as we are more rural as well (have dogs) Also seems easy commute to ABQ. Although Corrales is neat too.

Anyway, thanks again and hopefully i could have helpful info. for the two of you at some point.
