Hi everyone,  I'm new to this board and am seriously considering pulling my 3 boys out of Family School.  (Ages 14, 12, 6).  I'm looking for activities that are interesting and educational.  Is there anyone else with mid school age kids?  What kind of activities are out there for them other than sports?

Hi Chell,

My name is Voula and I went to family school last year.  This year I am homeschooling and loving it.  I joined the Abq Science Club and my kids are taking science classes in explora.  There are several science classes offered through the Natural History Museum for the older boys also.  Also Aeysha who taught at family school last year is offering a writing club.  There is a man who is offering an astronomy class for free in Corrales.  I understand your position and what you must be struggling through.  I also have friends in Family School currently who are trying to change how things are done and I am happy to put you in touch with them if you wish.

For your middle schoolers you might want to check out GOAL and it's older Teen group.

GOAL meets every week at a local park and has kids through 13.  The teen group plans it's own activities depending on what's going on.  This coming week they are all going to the fair on dollar day, for example.  Other times they've gone bowling or hung out at someone's house for videos or games.

 Both groups are on Yahoo.

Meg,

Thanks so much for the additional info.  I'm planning to check into both of these groups.
