Hi, all!

I've been hearing about y'all, so thought I'd come check it out!

I'm Diane, mom to dd5 and ds7--both permanently homeschooled. We're primarily unschoolers, but do a little handwriting and Miquon math.

I'm looking for a Daisy or Brownie scout troop in Albuquerque--I've heard there's one in RR, but I live pretty far southwest, so NE Abq is closer for me than Cottonwood or RR by far!

Looking forward to making contacts!

Diane

Hi Diane! Nice to meet you. I used to think I was going to be an unschooler, but somehow it didn't work out, so I guess we're eclectic instead! If you're interested in joining the co-op, you can come to a park day or something. Contact email & phone for us is on our home page at abqhomeschool.com.

Welcome to the board.  Best of luck in finding a Girl Scout troop.  There are not many set up specifically for homeschoolers.  I had a troop last year, (Junior level) and we were the only Junior level troop for homeschoolers that was accepting new girls.  I was unable to continue as troop leader and our troop did not recommit this school year.  It is amazing to me though that I have seen so many people looking for Girl Scout troops this year, after last year we could not find more girls for our troop for anything.  I know there was a Daisy troop last year and I heard rumor that they were thinking of doing Brownies as well this year, but I do not have any information beyond that.

However, if you are looking for activities and such to get your kids involved in, the Albuquerque Homeschool Co-op could be a possibility for you.  We have a very active calendar and a lot of children around both of your kids ages.  Best of luck finding a group that fits your family, whether it be this one or another of the many choices out there.

Diane, you might consider calling that big Girl Scouts building on Jefferson to find out about troops closer to you.  It's funny you posted this, because I just ran across that place yesterday, by accident.  DD has been curious about Girl Scouts, so we inquired.  She's going to try out a troop that meets on Monday afternoons at 4:30 at a Lutheran Church across from the Academy.  I don't know if that time and location works for you at all, but if so, your dd would be with at least one other homeschooled kid:  mine!    And this troop happens to be mixed-ages, so I kind of liked that, even though it's not specifically for homeschoolers.  Just thought I would mention that, because she told me that had room for two new Daisies.  Good luck!  Oh, and their number is 343-1040
