Here are some questions to get us started:

When should we start up classes?

How many classes per week would you like to see offered? That is, how often would your family like to attend a class (or other activity) each week?

What days are you free to take classes? What times are most convenient?

How long should a class last (in hours/minutes)?

Ideally, for how many weeks should a topic be taught?

Jack has speech therapy Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11am . He's doing terrific! So, I know that we'll be coming into town those two mornings. Ideally, I want him involved with other children and projects at least twice a week.

This is just our schedule and I'm sure that others will have other days of the week that are important to them as well.

Well, Fridays are not so good for me, but I could work around most other times. I'm sure I'm not alone in having an aternoon napper, so I'd prefer mornings in general, say 9:30 - 11 or something like that. Late afternoon (3:30+). Kelly, it sounds like you'd like to meet Tu-Th before 11, is that right?

How do you all feel about starting classes soon, even if we have to meet at someone's home? Say, as early as the week of Aug 4th? I'm looking forward to getting this thing started...

I'd like to participate in the co-op. At this point in time I cannot offer my home, as it is literally under construction.  After that I have no problem opening my home from time to time as a place to get together. (assuming, of course, that everyone who would like to get together will fit.. I have no idea how many members there are.)

As far as a co-op/learning get together, I personally, would like to get together like once a week for a couple-few hours. And then if we wanted to also do a playdate, something less formal or more relaxed, I would love to do that like once a week as well. A park day, or maybe an activity, or just letting the kids play even at someone's home.

Anyway.. those are my thoughts of what I am looking for idealy in a co-op group. )

Sarah, you make a very good point (in another post) about the balance between seeing too much of the same faces vs having a familiar group to hang out with. Related to that, I was going to propose that we try doing only one class per week at first, varying the theme and teacher(s) each week. If our membership grows over time, as I hope it will, we can plan more classes (especially if the ones we're giving should get too crowded) to help us get a chance to see fresh people more often. We might also want to plan a park or zoo day about once a week as well.

I think it really depends on what the group wants, if the majority want several classes a week. I know for us 3-5 days a week getting together with the same people, although I'm sure you're all wonderful, it just gets "old." I don't want to feel obligated to be somewhere every day of the week. (which is one reason why I am choosing to home school.)

I think it's wise to start small and then change to meet the needs of the group as the group grows or needs change. For example with the children in the age group we are talking about being so young, we may not need to teach a specific subject each week. But as they get older we may want to be more specific or offer more specific classes.

) Can't wait to meet the group!
