Hello,
I am new to this, my 6 year old son is in public school now, and Im thinking of homeschooling him this coming fall. He will be in the 1st grade.
I saw on the calendar that there is a homeschool convention in April, can anyone give me any information on this? And anyone who can give me some advise on homeschooling I would greatly appreciate it! 
I also have a son will be 3 this July so I wonder if anyone one else has a toddler at home while homeschooling? Please feel free to reply to this post or email me @ Lwilleto@hotmail.com or call me at home in the evenings 293-5107

I don't really know much about the convention, but I think that you will find info about it at the CAPE website http://www.cape-nm.org/
I hope that helps you! Welcome to the group.
By the way, I have a 4 year old son and an almost-2 year old daughter. We have recently gotten into a nice groove where my son and I can do projects while my daughter paints. We will aslo do more involved projects while she naps. I think that there are lots of ways to work with both, if you are creative!

Lisa,
The convention is the absolute best resource for helping you to make the decision to homeschool. The convention has seminars specifically geared to beginning homeschool so I highly recommend if you attended to choose those workshops to go to. I also recommend having your dh go with you. It is important that he understand what his role will be if this is what the two of you decide to do in your family. In years past, they have offered workshops in homeschooling with toddler's but really your 3 yr just joins in with you and your 6 yr, coloring, listening to reading, playing with blocks ect. Does your 3yr still nap? Your more one-to-one subjects can be done then. The library has many books on homeschooling too.

 Thanks for all the information! I am making plans now to attend the convention!Yes, my little one does still nap during the day. Does anyone homeschool during the summer? I was thinking of doing a trial with my son this summer to see how it goes? Any suggestions?

Hi Lisa -
One of the best advantages of Homeschooling is that there are no limits! We homeschool year-round, and vary our activities based on family life, Dad's schedule, holidays, weather, etc. I have a 6 and 4 year old as well as a 6 month old infant. I tried a "trial" for preschool, and we just kept going! I wasn't ready for my big guy to be gone most of the day. Granted, we have a VERY laid-back style, but we are involved in lots of activities, and my 4 year old participates as she wants to. Best wishes as you start your own homeschooling adventure!

Great to have you on board, the Convention is the best way to get started as well as once a month Bound to be Read on San Mateo has a monthly, "Getting Started with Homeschooling" workshop. I've heard lots about it but never attended.
I am a veteran to homeschooling going on 11 years with 6 children ranging in age from 3 to 20, (and with a daughter-in-law). There are never any limits and we have homeschooled year round as well. We take a break for the month of December (those holidays are always so crazy) and this year we'll have acouple of weeks off in July. But we've even incorporated vacations into our "schooling". The possibilities are endless.
You'll find out as you go what works for you, and be able to figure it all out. It's an awesome experience that you'll always cherish, even on the days that you cry and want to quit. Hang in there, and watch the benefits that you and your children reap. Again, welcome!!
