This might get nominated as the Dumb Question of the Century, but I don't know what public school district we live in.  I know that if we sent our kids to public school, it would be Rio Rancho Elementary.  I need to register as a homeschooler ASAP, so I need to know the district.  Can anyone help me?  Is it just Rio Rancho school district?

I know it sounds like a simple question.  The thing is, where I grew up, I went to Ladd Acres Elementary in the Reedville District, while living in a town called Aloha.  So I have no idea how school districts are organized or named.

I'll go get the dunce cap now.  If anyone needs me, I'll be in the chair in the corner.  Lol!!  J/K
Thanks for your help!

It is Rio Rancho Public School District.  Don't worry about it being a dumb question.  There are many places that it is not that simple.  The only dumb question is the one you don't ask, right?  That's what all the teachers I knew said when I was growing up.

El, just practicing my detective skills! I lived for some time in Portland. So when you said "Reedville" I thought of Reed College. When you said "Ladd Acres" I thought of the Portland neighborhood Ladd's Addition, and when you said Aloha it rang a faint bell.

I'm impressed by your detective skills.    Aloha is  a small town west of Portland and mostly absorbed by Hillsboro and Beaverton.   What part of Portland did you live in and how long were you there?  It's interesting to find someone in NM who also lived in Portland.

If you need to know your district, you can go to the APS website (I think it's aps.edu, or just do a search on albuquerque new mexico public schools) and there is a place where you can input an address and it will tell you which schools.  You can get all sorts of info on school stats...all of them, not just your own.  I found all of this out when we were preparing to move and I wanted to know about the districts where we might buy.  When you look at the test scores and averages and what's considered acceptable, it's very, very sad.

http://www.rrps.net

That's Rio Rancho school district's website. There's a link for the schools and where does my child go, which gives a map of which school your child would fall into.

I was also thinking when you said Aloha that you might be from Oregon. Of course, there could always be another city named Aloha! I have lots of family there, my cousins grew up and went to school there. I only lived there for a very short time. I spent more time living in WA than Oregon, but I know the area and have some friends living in the Portland/Hillsboro area now. What brought you to NM? It's so different here!!

Sarahmomgolden....Sorry it took me awhile to get back to you.  I was actually visiting family in Oregon all last week and was without internet access.  We came to NM because my husband had a job offer out here.  That was back in 2001.  It is very different, but there are qualities about both areas I like.  The first week we were here, we all got altitude sickness.  Yuck!  And coming back from our visit in OR, we noticed it took about a day to readjust to the altitude.  It's funny, I almost forgot what "dew" and "fog" are, lol!  Do we even get those here?

Where did your cousins go to school?  I went to Hillsboro high.  Small world.
