I want to introduce a study about India by using children's literature. I am looking for quality preschool-2nd grade level books that have anything to do with India. For example, in our introduction to China, we read 'The Story of Ping' which is about a duck who lives with his family on the Yangtze river. Does anyone have any ideas?

| Hi Angie, I didn't realize you were the Angie I know, and that you're homeschooling now! Well, you know Eric's fascination with numbers, so you probably won't be surprised that my one suggestion is a counting book. It's called One Grain of Rice. About a raja who wants to be wise ("as a raja should be"), a clever maiden, famine, rice, elephants, ... and powers of two. A good story, and very beautiful illustrations, too. If you want I can lend it to you. |

Hi, There is a book called "Stories From India", The publisher is Usborne. It is a 96 page hardcover storybook. I would estimate it has about 8 different traditional Indian stories in it. I work for Usborne and it can be ordered through me. I am not trying to make this an advertisement, so if anyone is interested, just respond to this post and i can email you the info. or my webstore address. There is a possibility for a quantity discount as well. Vali Dugan |
