Just an update on this.  The extention listed is actually an incorrect extension.  It was listed incorrectly in NewMexico Kids Magazine.  To get information on this you will want to ask for Jennifer Schooley, (the same phone #).  However, I was informed that she is out of the country until mid August.  So, in the meantime you will want to talk with Heather Morgan, who is out on vacation until Monday.

I left a message for her today and will try to remember to post more as I get more details.

I was coming on here to post about the same thing.  Just curious if it was a new program or one that people have done in the past.  It sounds interesting and fun for my boys.  Does anyone know any additional info, or experiences with this program???

THANKS

Just another note,
the Riverpoint location is on Coors and Paseo, rather than I40 and Paseo.

THANKS again for any info!!

Too funny-- I also called about this today... I talked with someone named Lisa who used to run the program... Was told the same info about Jennifer and to call back in August.. Lisa was extremely nice about the whole thing.. Poor woman, she's probably been handling this all day!  Oh and I didn't mention the extension number just asked for the Jennifer Schooley and was sent to Lisa's voice mail!

It is a program that's been run in the past (by Lisa).  She said the class had not been big in the past but if they did get alot of interest, they would even hold 2 classes to accomodate everyone that wanted to take it...

Anyway-- check back in mid-August with the program starting in September, 4 classes per month!

Does anyone know if this is something that is seperate from having a membership there, or do you need to be a member?

I sent Jennifer an email about htis and here is her info...

Kari,
Thank you for your interest in the Homeschool PE program.  I am out of town for the next two weeks, but can send you a registration form the week of Aug. 15.  The Riverpoint class is tentatively scheduled for Tuesdays from 2:00-3:00 PM.  There will be a class at Del Norte on Thursdays at the same time (pending final approval).  I am just waiting for the final schedule approval.  We will begin the first Tuesday in September, which is the 6th.  We do a variety of activities, sports and skills.  We provide all of the supplies.  The cost is $23.00 for club members and $28.00 for non-members per month.  There is a 15% discount for additional children.  There is also an additional discount available if you sign up for three months at a time.  I look forward to meeting you.  Sincerely, Jennifer Schooley (Homeschool PE Coach)

That is not too bad if that cost covers both locations.  But, if that is for only the one class a week, that is a bit steep.  Of course that is in comparison to the Homeschool Sports & Rec program Jordan was in last year.  She really enjoyed it and it was a great deal at $3/ hour long class.  Does anyone know if Fred Cota is doing that again this school year?  I know he had a summer session scheduled, but his website is not reflecting anything for Fall yet.

Atleast for the Fall there is the free PE class at UNM.  But, I would love to have more physical activities for Jordan and the boys.  Especially through the colder months when we seem to stay more cooped up at home.

Yep that price is a bit much for one session a week!  Fred is having a fall session.. It begins August 15th. However, his price has increased (perhaps he's researched the market?) and it's now $7/week per child.. Or $3.50 a class.. Still substantially lower than this class.  Sports and Rec will meet from 3.45 to 4.45.   He's asking that anyone interested to send him an email at fredcota@homeschoolsportsandrec.com.  I don't think we will be doing Fred's Sports and Rec class.  Matthew was quite overwhelmed by the older kids and only enjoyed it because his close friends were also going.  Those boys won't be doing it this fall so Matthew doesn't want to attend.  The classes seemed fun and the kids enjoyed them. He kept them moving--- it was just that most of the kids were older than Matthew.

Thanks for posting this.  I think we will do this for Jordan again this year.  She really enjoyed it last year.

I thik this one will work into our schedule this year.  I like only once a week (we have other activities to add in there) and I like the small groups.  Hope to see some of you there!

I think Dallin is still too little to do the one at Sports and Wellness, although that is a really nice gym.  I wonder if they would do homeschool swim classes for preschoolers.  They have a really nice indoor pool, at least at the east of Tramway, off of Montgomery.

When you consider that at $10.00 per week, gymnastics is $40-50 per month, $28.00 per month for the program at NM Sports and Wellness isn't bad.

Is Sharon lining up the program at UNM again this year?  If so, I think that is where I would be leaning.  I didn't do it last year because it was too much with all that I had going on with the kids, but I'd be interesed this year.  You can't beat that price.

I will agree the price is not bad, but when money is tight it is steep.  I would love to have the kids in gymnastics right now, but I just can not afford it.  So, In considering th options, I have to go for the best price for a decent program.  The Homeschool Sports and Rec program is just that.  It is a good program at a cheaper price.

Yes, Sharon is doing the UNM class again.  That is a Free program, so obviously the cheapest choice.  It will meet for half an hour Thursday mornings.
