This class is starting soon so if you're interested and haven't already contacted me, please do so.

The PE department at UNM is willing to provide us with an 8-wk PE class for homeschoolers again this fall.  It was a success last fall and I've had many requests to organize it again so here it is!

Class Description
PE class for homeschoolers in conjunction with the physical education department at the University of New Mexico.  Under the supervision of the instructor, student teachers who are majoring in PE work with the children in small, age appropriate groups.  The curriculum covers the fundamental movements of Locomotion, Non-locomotion, Manipulation and the application of movement concepts of Space, Effort and Relationships to those skill themes.  The activities are developmentally appropriate for the skill level of the children in each group.

The class time is Thursdays, 8:45 - 9:15 am on campus at Johnson Center (across from Popejoy Hall off Central).  The dates are, Thursdays, October 6th through December 8th, not including UNM Fall Break (Oct. 13) and Thanksgiving (Nov. 24), for a total of 8 classes.  The professor needs the kids there and ready to go at 8:45, which means that you'd probably need to be on campus no later than 8:35 by the time you park, walk in, etc.

For kids ages 5-11, and siblings under age 5.  This is not a co-op only class, but is open to homeschoolers who register with Sharon (exerscience@earthlink.net).  There is no charge for this class; however, there is a charge for parking on campus.  Parking costs $1 for one hour and is convenient to class location.

We are all in for participating this time.  I know that we can make this work.  I heard so many wonderful things about this class last year, I kicked myself for not figuring out a way to fit it in to our schedule.

Thanks for setting this up again.

Still not sure how I'm setting up my fall schedule but I'm definitely interested... Is there a deadline to RSVP by?  Can we sign up but then come to whatever class we can make it to or do you need a firm commitment for all the classes (illness and emergencies excluded)?

Thanks!

Great!  I'm glad that you all are interested.  I'll put you on the list.  Vicki, I think we will have enough children interested in that some families can just drop in when they can make it... so no problem there.
Sharon

No RSVP deadline although it is possible that we may fill up as the class gets closer... I believe the instructor wanted to cap it off at about 35 kids last year.

Just read Jessica's post and realized that Jonathan won't be able to do this.  He is only four.

Shannon,
No problem on Jonathans age.  He can definitely come.  The ideal requested age was for kids 5 and above but it's not a requirement.  Kids under 5 are put into a group in which their parents simply participate with them and they are definitely welcome!  And the parental involvement is minimal, so people can bring babies too, even if they have other preschoolers to watch.
Sharon

And Carolyn, Natalie is most welcome!

Sharon,

I emailed last night before I noticed your response to Shannon about Jonathan.  So, now that I know that is okay, I'd like to have Dallin participate.

Thanks,
Kari

We'd like to come.  That's Raven, 6, and Cypress 5.  I tried to email her at exerscience@earthlink.net, but I'm computer illiterate and can't get thru.  Anyone help me?!  I'm only getting the earthlink home page.

Carrie, you don't type her email address into your browser's address box (that's why you were getting the earthlink homepage). You type her email address in your email program. Hope that helps!
