Forgive me if this seems off-topic for a homeschooling list, but I know many potential homeschoolers also have an interest in APS Family School...
I heard a rumor that there was a new charter school being planned for next year, somewhat similar to the existing APS Family school, to be located in NE Heights? Has anyone heard anything about it? I also heard that there was to be a meeting for those interested some time in February at Fundamentals Gymnastics. I can't ask them about it because they're closed for two weeks at the holidays.
Anyway, if anyone has info, I'd be interested in finding out about it. (We aren't going to enroll, but I was intending to add info on this new school, as well as Family School, to the web site.) |

Hi Elizabeth, I did read about this in the latest "New Mexico Kids" magazine. I will see if I can find out the specific date for the meeting at fundamentals. I can't seem to find my copy of the magazine right now, but I am sure that it was in the Jan.- Feb. issue. Rebekah |

Hi Elizabeth, Yes, I am familiar with this school. It is called North Albuquerque Cooperative Community School (NACC). There is a website http://www.naccschool.org (I have not visited it myself, though). And the information sessions will be February 2, 7pm at Fundamentals and another at Title Wave Books on February 18 at 4pm. The founder, Bonnie Barsun, has children who attend (or attended--I am not sure if they are still there) Family School. I think what she is doing is taking alot of what works at Family School and making it a little more family friendly (i.e. offering childcare during meetings at the school, etc.) It also could be a response to increased interest by families wanting to get into Family School. There is usually quite a long waiting list to get in there. Stacey |

Thanks for posting that link, and the meeting times and places! I couldn't find anywhere on the website WHERE the school will be located. Do you happen to know?
