| Gretchen, way back when Eric was a baby I looked into Waldorf. There used to be a Waldorf "study group/play group" entry in the NM Kids (free magazine) calendar section, I think under the Parents category. I haven't looked so I don't know if it's still there. I'm sure there are many people who like Waldorf and have had their children do well with it. Reading the stuff at http://www.waldorfcritics.org, however, sort of soured me on the idea, although I have no personal experience with Waldorf nor knowledge of how accurate the criticisms are. |

Thanks for your help, Elizabeth! I really appreciate the link to the Waldorf critics, because I think it is most valuable to get opposing opinions. What I read there would definitely make me think long and hard about putting her in a Waldorf school. But I still think there might be some elements of the Waldorf approach that could work in our home. That's one of the best things about being a home educator, isn't it? You have the ability to pick and chose what works for your individual children, and discard what doesn't.
Thanks again! |

Hi Gretchen, I was very interested early on in Waldorf Education. I have several friends who use the Oak Meadows homeschool curriculum which is Waldorf based. Oak Meadows is also fully accredited which is nice if you are planning on homeschooling through high school. I don't use Waldorf myself but have read enough to know what I like and what works for us so I incorporate where I can. I haved looked through the Oak Meadows Kindergarten curriculum and I thought it was great. I would be happy to put you into contact with the Waldorf families that I know if you have questions or want to connect with that community as well. Laura |

| Thank you Laura! Yes, I think I would enjoy talking to some Waldorf families to get a better feel for it. My phone number and email is on the member roster. Would you prefer to pass my info along to them, or to give me theirs? (It matters not to me.) Thank you! |

Hi Gretchen, Here is the e-mail address for Pam Rowen. She organizes get-togethers and classes for Waldorf families here in Albuquerque. I let her know that you were interested so just drop her a note and she should be able to help you dial in! Good luck!
