Geared to getting a feel for what the homeschool community wants out of the many resources available from the New Mexico Museum of Natural History....Linda at the museum is setting up a Focus group on January 23rd from about 10-12 in the museum annex classroom (by the parking lot on the explora side)  Use the link below or see the information below to contact her with your opinions....if you can not come to the group PLEASE send an email with your insight into this wonderful use of our 'natural' resources!

Please pass this along to all the homeschoolers you know who might be interested in participating and getting their voices heard!--Tabbi

Winter Offerings for Home School Families

Ecology Explorations:  Dirt
An exploration for children ages 7 through 9. We will ask the following questions about dirt: What are the living and non-living things that make up the dirt? What kinds of things are living in the dirt? How does decomposition turn garbage into dirt? What is the role of dirt in an ecosystem?

Date:  January 27th
Time:  2-4pm
Place:  Annex classroom or EE Office
Cost:  $10 per child
Minimum enrollment:  7
Maximum enrollment:  15

Ecology Explorations are one-day adventures based at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. They allow students to begin exploring a topic in Natural History and will include ideas for follow-up at home. Exploration events will be scheduled for different grade levels on a variety of topics throughout the year in order to provide an introduction to basic science and ecology concepts and to determine whether there is interest in more in-depth investigations of a given topic. If there is sufficient interest in a topic, a full 4 to 8 week class will be planned.

Home School Focus Group:
Because of the continued requests for classes geared toward Home School Families, I would like to invite Home Schoolers to participate in a focus group to be scheduled in January.

Oh, I am SO glad they're pushing the enrollment price down. When we were asking about setting up classes for the co-op a while back, they were quoting $15-20 per kid. Thanks for posting this!

I noticed that also but I wonder if it is because it is just a one day class too?  The solar system class was only ending up costing $10 a class anyway for 6 weeks.....WONDERFUL teacher by the way this Linda!!!  Anyway, the Linda today told us she had to cancel a few classes because she did not get kids to sign up and I told her she absolutely needs to get in on the information chain for homeschoolers to get the word out and then if we get a lot of classes and interest maybe the prices will stay down!--Tabbi

How do I sign up for the "Dirt" class?  And in Tabbi's first message, are those supposed to be links and/or real documents we can print and fill out?  (the Home School Registration forms) - or do I follow the link to the Museum to find these, or write or call Linda?

thanks!
