This came up on another list that I'm on and seemed a great free resource, so I thought I'd pass it on.
Meg
Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills. It is the Texan version of the 'no child left behind' test. Texas state law apparently requires that the test be released to the public after it is given and one Texas state legislator makes it available on his campaign website. I've noticed over the past few years the number "correct" that one must get to "pass" has been dropping. I wouldn't consider my child to have "passed" if he scored the minimum--but, as I said in my earlier note, I'm not accountable to the legislature for my children's education.

The test currently on the site is the Spring 2004 test. This is the first year that the last test given has not been posted by the beginning of the school year. I don't know whether or not this means that the law has been changed or some other consideration has delayed or prevented the posting of the Spring 2005 test. I don't follow Texas politics at all. It's possible that the tests may not be available much longer since the 2005 test has not been posted. |

| Thanks, Meg. I've always been curious about standardized tests. Like a lot of homeschoolers, our family doesn't do testing or grading & I've wondered how important it is for my kids to learn test-taking skills. |

We are not test people, but back in (our old days) I did have Sorscha tested. It was not free but we used,
Family Learning Center
Just and FYI if anyone was ever interested. They send you back a graph and at what grade level your child scored at. Crystal |

If anyone is interested, these links are out of my files. Neither test is free, but last time I checked it was only $40-$50 per child. You give the tests in the comfort of your home and then mail them back. They will check them and then compare your results against national data. At the least the report on the CAT is very thorough.
