Unfortunately, with the maybe's and the definites, the group is full. If you are signed up and know you won't be able to attend please let me know so that another person can use your slot. April 24 there are two groups, one at 1 and one at 1:30pm. We will meet in the lobby of Presbyterian hospital about 5 minutes prior to the begining of our session. If you have already signed up and have a preference over the 1 or 1:30 time please let me know so I can juggle the groups - 15 for each session max. If anyone is interested in car pooling this might be a good idea as parking at the downtown hospital midday can be somewhat hairy! I reccommend arriving early to find parking. Here are the details as forwarded to me from the Director of Child Life at Presbyterian:
The CHILD LIFE PROGRAM invites you to attend the 2006 Children and Healthcare Week; celebrated at Presbyterian Hospital with a Healthcare Fair the week of April 24-28. The Children and Healthcare Week (CHW) Fair is set up in the lower lobby area across from the out-patient pharmacy at downtown Pres.
The designated area is set up to accommodate classes as children rotate through booths that are mock hospital scenarios: emergency room, heart station, x-ray station, respiratory etc. Each child will be requested to bring a stuffed animal, teddy bear or doll to the Fair. Each child will participate in administering medical care to the stuffed animal or doll; as we have provided the individual child with props to assume a medical identity. Props include a bouffant cap, shoe covers and face mask.
In this way children experience hands on, the procedure(s) for admittance and treatment considerations when being hospitalized. Each class is greeted by the Director of the Child Life Program or a health care provider who gives each child a ‘goodie bag’ with props, stickers etc. The concept of the Child Life Program is reviewed with the children; discussing how this program assists a child and family members throughout the course of a hospital experience. The structure of the Fair is discussed and each child is asked to take ‘the blue ball’ out of the goodie bag. The ball contains the cap , shoe covers and mask. The children are instructed to put these on if they so desire. Once this is done each child is a medical professional of their choice. The tour begins with admitting and a visit to the ‘ER’, thereafter children proceed through a number of different ‘stations’ that are interactive in the learning experience.
