Has anyone used this program? What are the pros/cons that you've found? We are considering switching from Singapore Math. What additional resources would you suggest purchasing with the books?

Hello Joanne,
We started out with Singapore and my
kids and I didn't like it at all. 
Last year, a friend gave us all of her
MUS books and manipulatives.
I'm actually learning to understand Math
now much clearer than I did in PS.
My sons have re-learned how to add, subtract
and multiply without using their fingers,
which is very cool!
If your kids tend to be visual learners and like
to use manipulatives they will probably love MUS,
like mine do. We aren't as structured and
don't follow all of the MUS activities, but we
are all definetly learning...and most importantly
enjoying Math now  |

My oldest seems to be a visual learner - but as all kids are at this age, she has serious ants in her pants and can't sit still for long (so perhaps she's also kinesthetic - it's hard to pin her down to one type or another). She uses her fingers a lot or has to draw out objects to count in order to add/subtract. On one hand I feel like she's getting it but then sometimes I wonder if she really is. I have a good friend that does classical education and she insists that I'm pushing too much math. (we do 1 or 2 pages in the Singapore book a day or she plays her math games on the computer) What style of schooling do you do? I tend to lean more towards eccletic, but we have to have a schedule. I work full time and I'm working on my masters degree so I need to have that "brain" tell me what's coming next, what we've done because I would probably fall terribly behind otherwise. We are thinking of using Sonlight for 1st grade, but not sure what level to buy as she has already read most of the first and second grade readers that are in the program.
