Wednesday, June 28th, 6:30PM-8:30PM, at Tabbi Orr's house (see directions below)
PARENTS ONLY!!
We are going to have a monthly meeting for new and 'old' homeschoolers to come and discuss curriculums, great books, online resources, frustrations, share ideas or projects, provide shoulders to cry on, and just in general be there for the joyful process that is homeschooling.
FOR ANYONE INTERESTED IN HOMESCHOOLING...and we will see how it goes for opening things in the future..perhaps even a location that can  hold more people (I am networking for something locally..but I will keep you updated!).
Please bring snacks and finger foods, drinks and paper goods (you can never have too many napkins).
Please bring your favorite books and/or curriculums so that we can have a variety.  Please put your name in every book you bring to avoid any confusion!
Please bring paper and pencils as there are always great websites, ideas and books floating around that you will just want to write down!
Our house has a shoes off policy so please wear socks if you do not like to show off your feet, lol!
Please bear in mind that there will be all forms and types of homeschooling represented and all forms and types of living in this world so RESPECT is the name of the game.   We will not promote only one way of homeschooling or living everyone is welcome!
There are no dumb questions...if we do not know the answers we will find someone who does!I have the RSVPs from the other thread but if we have any more please post...
If I forgot anything please post!---PLEASE RSVP BY THAT DAY SO THAT WE CAN KNOW  A HEAD COUNT!!!

Directions to my  house: From Coors, take Irving west (this is the street near Paseo del Norte with the Target shopping center), past Golf Course, past Unser (keep going you have not missed it!) there will be a four-way stop at Irving and Universe staying on Irving go through the stop sign....take an immediate left into Country Meadows subdivision and then an immediate right on Paese Place NW....we are #6809 down on the left hand side, two-story...if you get lost please call 792-4110!

Jo-Anne, I had typed something else but I mixed you up with another friend, lol, I am getting confused with everyone I talk to via email and then in person, lol, but we will be glad to see you there, please bring whatever snack you want we are not picky if we have ten bags of chips and whatever your curriculum you use or favorite books or just a list of websites, etc....or just bring yourself, this is for new people to come and chat also!  I have tons of catalogs and you are welcome to browse!  Oh yes and bring a writing implement and paper because you will go away with notes LOL!

Tabbi,  I'm new to both this board and to homeschooling, and I would love to attend.  My oldest DD is 7, and attended a charter school for first grade, but we're going to adventure at home next year.  I'll probaby be rather eclectic in style (read:  can't decide between Classical and unschooling), but I'm trying really hard to stay away from too much formality.  My other DD is 14 months, so I'm sure her input will be, um, enthusiastic.

Thank you very much for providing this opportunity!

Jen B.

Jen, Looking forward to meeting you, I would have to say that pretty much sums up the way we homeschool, although I would spell eclectic in our house with all caps and bolded, LOL....You will be surprised at how fast your younger daughter picks things up, my little one loves to tell the older one how to spell words when she gets stuck...LOL...just bring whatever you want and something to write with and you will meet some great parents guaranteed!

Last night I had the Bright Minds party and I have asked Amy, the distributor, to come as a homeschool parent first and to bring her books so that people can see them first hand to our monthly curriculum/support night.  It just does not hurt to have one more 'weapon' for homeschooling in our arsenal if something else is not working for our child.  She will not do any sales pitches but have her stuff available if anyone wants to purchase anything from her just as anyone can bring homeschool items to sell or trade or give away!  See this link for the BM specials this month http://www.abqhomeschool.com/cgi-bin/blah/Blah.pl/Blah.pl?b=AD1,m=1149999899

I am also reminding everyone that if you have something that is working for your child please bring it to share (and put your name in it)!

Margo had a great idea at gymnastics today.....to focus the monthly group on a topic so this month bring all your ideas and books, etc on phonics, reading, literature and mathematics....we can discuss anything else too not a big deal so bring whatever you feel comfortable bringing..but these seem to be the topic of the month 'round the water cooler so this will be a great way to get everyone to see things without having to see them in 5 minute increments while watching the kids!

Just to let you know the first people here will get some good choices of a bunch of educational posters.....I cleaned out my poster supply and man it feels good!  I have some other stuff too for free of course....Does anyone know if anyone still sells Usborne books at home, some of their stuff is fantastic and I know one program that uses their stuff extensively so wondering if there were any moms out there who still did their at home program??

we use the usborne for our kids--its fabulous.  If you don't find anyone to purchase from, got to their site--you can purchase there.  We use lots of stuff, not just usborne.  Really--the library is the way we go.
