We are due to close on the 15th of December, and move out to NM.

I undertand I must notify,by email, within 30 days of intent to homeschool.

Does this mean within 30 days of arriving to NM, or may I take my time to do this?? Could I just do it at the April date that is required? Are they pretty sticky with this requirement or do some people stay "underground"?

We are coming from a state that does not require ANYTHING, so even just this requirement feels obtrusive.

thanks ahead

I'm not positive, but I'm sure you could take some time before filling out the intent form.  I would not be rushing to do it if it was me.  I don't know the age of your child(ren), but I think you don't have to do anything untill they're 7 yo.

Maybe someone out there with more knowledge knows for sure?

Goog moving!

Jennifer, school age officially starts on the Sept 1 that the child is 5 years old. I'm told that you can delay kindergarten age by two years (up to age 7 as of Sept 1) but you have to have the permission of someone (can't remember who... superintendant of your school district, maybe?).

"HisGrace4us" - welcome to NM! It sounds like you're familiar with the state's homeschooling laws since you know about the April 30/30 days rule. I doubt if anyone here is going to stick their neck out far enough to tell you to go ahead and break the rules if you feel like it, but I will say that I've never heard of anyone getting found out and punished in any way for neglecting to register by the deadlines.
