I belong to the NE Heights chapter of MOMS Club, a support group for mothers of toddlers. We're looking for a teenager who would be interested in coming to our meetings (once a month, 1st Thursday, 10:30am) to help the little kids do a craft. They can pay a small amount -- not sure how much. If you know anyone who might be interested, please ask them to email Laura H. at mlheitman@msn.com .

Does the MOMS group allow moms who have homeschooled kids who are a little older ages 7 and 5 to come, or do the kids have to be pre-school age. I was looking for a group for moms, but most only seem to allow preschoolers.

I have a 12 1/2 year old who is more responsible than most 16 year olds. However we have no idea what a Mom's group is. KK is 3 so maybe if I can get some details and there are openings, me and the girls can do this. Let me know.

My club, which is part of a larger organization called MOMS Club International is a group intended to provide support for stay-at-home moms. It doesn't specifically limit support to those with preschoolers, but most members do have infants to preschoolers. Our chapter is old enough (about 4 years?) that we have several moms with kindergarten-age kids. Problem is, one they get that age, they're off to preschool and kindergarten, so there isn't that much opportunity for my own 5yo to interact with others of that age. That's one reason why a group of us from the MOMS Club started this homeschooling support group -- a way to have many of the benefits of the MOMS Club, with the added benefit that families don't peel away once their kids reach school age.

So, Angelica, in answer to your question, I'm not sure this would be the best fit for you, but they certainly don't prohibit school age kids. One of the tenets of the MOMS Club is that all activities (many designed for the adults, such as book discussion groups, needlework groups, cooking groups, etc.) are open to children coming as well. There are several MOMS Club chapters in ABQ, mine is the NE Heights one. You can see the web site I did for them at http://www.ixacta.com/momsclub/ . I think they have westside and eastside chapters as well. You'd have to check out the official site http://www.momsclub.org to find that out.

Lisa, we're still looking for someone to help us out once a month (first Thursday 10:30am) for an hour or so at our craft room. It may be possible for you to join our group, I'm not sure if they have restrictions based on where you live. You can check out our chapter's web site to see if what the group does seems interesting to you: http://www.ixacta.com/momsclub/ .
