Would anyone be interested in doing a one-time hosting our monthly craft group? It's a good way to get to know other homeschooling families, and all you need to supply is tables and chairs for about 6 kids doing crafts.
I'd be happy to continue supplying the craft materials, so you don't need to worry about that part. Please let me know if you'd like to host one of the following tentatively scheduled events (that is, I can change the date to suit you), by replying to this message or calling me at 797-9441.
Valentine craft, Friday, Feb 13, 2004. 10am St Patrick's day craft, Wed, Mar 17, 2004. 3pm Spring/Easter crafts, Thu, April 8, 2004. 10am TBD craft, Mon, May 10, 2004. 3pm

Elilzabeth, I would be willing to host a craft. I do live in Cedar Crest. Which I have to say is really not that far. Plus, it is so beautiful up here. Also, we have about an acre that is fenced and the kids can run around and play on the swings, slides and hammocks. So, if anyone is interested...I will host.

| Thanks, Kwon, I think that'd be great. Would you like to pick out one of the dates I listed to host? |

Hi Elizabeth, I would also be willing to host a craft day, but like Kwon, we also live in the east mountains on S14 (about 25-30 minutes from Tramway & Central) - much farther than it sounds like Kwon lives. Like she had noted though, it is beautiful up here and there is plenty of room for the kids to roam and play, especially if it's a nice day. Wednesdays are good for me so the March day would be ideal. Let me know what you think of the location (as I can understand if some people may not want to commute that far) and we can go from there. Well, Sharon and Kwon, thank you both for volunteering. Last month we had the craft group hosted on the west side of town, this month I hosted "in the middle", so I think it's reasonable to host on the east side of the mountains from time to time too. We have co-op members who live all over the place, so varying the location seems like a great idea. I'm leery of having it too often on the east side, since it is a long drive for some, but maybe one of you can host in the next couple of months some time, and then we'll wait several months and then the other can take a turn maybe in the summer?
Or instead of the craft group, ya know I was thinking what we need you east mountainers for? To plan a trip to the pumpkin patch in Oct or some other "rural" type of activity. |

| Hello. I'm new enough that I haven't yet participated in anything (I've just been paying attention to what is happening), but I should be ready to get started by April, if not sooner. I would be willing to host a craft group at my home, but I also live on the east side, east of Tramway, south of Comanche. I have a fenced yard, with a swing set and slide for younger children to keep busy. Let me know if you are interested. |

Elizabeth,
Looks like Sharon wants to host/can host March's craft. If you still need people, I am up for May or June, if there is a craft in June.

OK, how does this sound:
Kari (that's dallin2001) - you're actually in town, just on the NE side. So how would you feel about hosting the April meeting -- theSpring/Easter crafts, Thu, April 8, 2004. 10am
Sharon and Kwon - I appreciate your offers. When we hosted on the west side, it was mostly west siders coming to the crafts. With you guys on the east side, I'm guessing we'd have members from the east mountain area showing up... except, I'm not sure how many co-op members we have out there. There might be a lot though. Maybe we can try to find out how many people would be willing to come to the craft if it were hosted in the East Mountain area before deciding on a date? I can post something about that soon.

Hi Elizabeth, That sounds good to me. If we don't get many interested, maybe someone else could host it in town. Kwon is definitely closer and I won't "feel bad" if people are opposed to the drive. Hopefully members will post and give their feedback. Once again, we're on South 14, about 13 miles south of Tijeras. (about 25-30 minutes from Tramway/Central). Sincerely, Sharon |

| Hi, this is Lisa, I too am in the East Mountains, S 14 as well, 11 miles from the light at the Tijeras exit, (sounds like Sharon and I are rather close) so that works out great for us, yet, I have no problem driving anywhere for the need. Thanks to all that have agreed to arts and crafts in their homes. Hope to meet everyone soon. |

April 8th at 10 am sounds fine to me. I scheduled it in. Should I plan on that being from 10-12, or does it run longer than that?
Like I said, I'm east of Tramway, south of Comanche. My address is 3304 Embudito Drive, NE. My phone number is 271-9299.
From Tramway, go east on on Comanche. At the first stop sign, make a right onto Embudito Drive. After crossing Mountain Shaddow (a side street on the left), our house is the second one on the left. If you get to Hugh Graham, you've gone too far.
Elizabeth, do you have a craft idea in mind, or should I come up with something? What age ranges are we working with? I can come up with something to do with Easter, if that is not offensive to anyone.
For the record, I don't mind driving out towards Tijeras. I think it is nice out there, and sometimes I like a change of scenery.

Kari, Thanks for the directions and contact info. I'll add this to our April calendar and send it with the April newsletters. I'll ask people to RSVP to you. Generally we have 4-6 families show up for crafts, including the host family. But it's your decision how many people you want to have come. So, if too many people RSVP, you can tell them we're all full up for that month.
I buy crafts "in bulk" from a number of places, including Oriental Trading. So I already have plenty of Easter & Spring themed crafts that I can bring. If you prefer to offer your own craft, just let me know, but it's no trouble for me to bring all the supplies (craft, glue, etc.). All you need to supply are tables and chairs for the kids -- and I can even help with that if you need it.
The group generally stays between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the craft, the weather, how the kids are getting along. And generally we don't provide refreshments (but they can bring their own if they want).
Hope this answers your questions, and thanks SO much for offering to host in April.

| And it sounds like we have plenty of interest in a craft group meeting east of the mountains. I know I'd love to get out there! Sharon, if you're still interested in hosting the March craft, that would be wonderful. Let me know! |

Your craft project will be fine. Thank you, Elizabeth.
As for working space: My kitchen table will seat 6. I should have my homeschool counter up and running by then, which will have room for at least 3, maybe 4. If we need more space, I also have a folding table that could seat another 6-8, but I don't have folding chairs for it yet. So, if the extra space is needed, and someone else has some folding chairs they could bring, that would be great! Anyway, I should have plenty of space.
What age groups are the projects for?

Most of the crafts I buy would appeal to a wide age range. They're generally glue-together items using pre-cut pieces, or else something that needs to be decorated with glue, crayons, glitter-glue, etc. That way we can let the 3 year olds do it with a lot of mom's help, the five year olds do it with maybe a little advice, and the 7 year olds do it all by themselves!
For example, at our last craft group, we had a choice of two crafts -- (1) a wooden pinwheel that the kids could decorate with paint, or (2) a clear acrylic dinner plate that had paper inserts the kids decorated (with glitter glue, markers, sequins) and inserted into the plate to customize it. I buy a lot of the crafts from Oriental Trading, because they're cheap, but they only come in sets of 12. I also try to bring paper and crayons for any toddlers in attendance just in case they want to do crafts too. |
