Dear Homeschoolers,
Our family has donated a portion of our backyard for the purpose of creating the “From Seed to Shining Seed Homeschool Garden Program”. A few homeschooling families have been meeting to develop this program since November. At this time, we have room for 3 additional families. The costs for the garden will be shared and determined prior to any purchases. This program will incorporate science, math, art, economics, language arts, geography and other subject area disciplines into the “hands-on” gardening based activities. After harvest, the children will take our goods to a local farmers market. We want the kids to play a major role in this garden. It’s all about the kids!
We will be using the Junior Master Gardener (JMG) program that will help our children grow and learn through a “hands-on” learning experiences and activities. The JMG program provides a positive learning experience for youth to develop leadership, responsibility and community pride through organized gardening activities. The JMG program combines a unique gardening based curriculum and web based instruction, community service, character education and service-based learning, into a fun and exciting certification program for youth.
“From Seed to Shining Seeds” needs your help to make the program a success! We have regular meetings on Thursday (10:00 – Noon). Fewer or additional meetings will be scheduled as needed. All ages are welcome to participate.
Parents are needed to help guide the children, assist in planning/building garden beds, compost bins, fences, arbors, and other structures, acquiring gardening equipment and/or supplies for use in the garden, and assist in grant applications and contacting businesses and community members for support through donations and gifts for the gardens.
If you are interested or have additional questions, please contact me as soon as possible (898-4454). Our next gathering is Thursday at (10:00 – Noon) at our garden. We are located on the NW side of Albuquerque, near Cottonwood Mall. Our current projects include bed preparation, indoor seed starting and sowing selected seed. Our family is so excited to work with our other area homeschooling families to grow and build our kids and garden.

I would very much like to join your group and assist, and know that my son (6) would enjoy the program as well.
