Hello Homeschoolers!
For those who are ready for another statewide homeschool conference this Fall, we’re having our first organizational meeting next Thursday, April 29th! This is an inclusive homeschool conference like 2002's and all homeschoolers and homeschool groups are invited, but it's only going to happen if we have enough interested people who are willing to help put it together. At the interest meeting, we’ll have plenty of laughs, pens, paper, etc. to share. If you can help at the conference or before, please join us for this meeting! Bring your kids (there’s playground equipment & shade) and your ideas for the conference!
Homeschool Conference Interest Meeting
When: Thursday, April 29, 2004 at 1:30 pm.
Where: Holiday Park (on Comanche, East of Juan Tabo in Alb.)
This year, we’re splitting up the volunteer jobs into bitesized chunks and asking for everyone to pitch in and bite off what they can chew (without any unpleasant aftertaste). A list of some specific help we’re looking for is at the RGHN website:
http://www.rghomeschooling.org/conference.html
If you can’t make the meeting but definitely want to help, please email Cyndy (cbush@swcp.com) and let her know which of the positions listed you’d be willing to take on.
WHICH CONFERENCE/WHY CONFERENCE?:
Some of you are going to the CAPE conference this weekend, which is a long-standing and wonderful Christian homeschool conference, and so you might be wondering why should we have any other? Perhaps some of you remember the tables of several different homeschool groups in New Mexico, each with their own contact information and group activities. Perhaps others remember our homeschool presentations or panel discussions describing different ways to homeschool, different resources or workshops to identify your children’s learning styles. Some may have come to shop or simply connect with other like-minded people, but many came and went away with some thing or two that was helpful for their own home school. That’s why people are talking about putting together another one.
WHO IS “WE” / WHO IS RGHN?
The Rio Grande Homeschooling Network (RGHN) was started in 2002 with the simple goal that no homeschooler in New Mexico should have to feel isolated or out-of-touch. It is a statewide umbrella organization that includes all New Mexico homeschoolers and all homeschool groups who want to be a part of it. RGHN is not one homeschool group itself, but rather the state’s collection of groups. There are over 20 homeschool groups in the Albuquerque area, with several more around the state. Through the RGHN, people can connect with whichever group matches their own interests, needs and values. We present occasional classes, a statewide conference (when there is enough interest and volunteers), occasional events, and a centralized source for information distribution. This used to be a printed newsletter, but we have since moved online to:

If you’re a homeschooler who would like to see a conference this year, please come on down and lend your brain and a little time on the 29th. We’ll look forward to seeing you!
