Swim Lessons for All Ages Start June 7, Register Now
Publish Date: April 13, 2004
The Parks and Recreation Department Aquatic's Division will begin to register participants for swimming lessons for the summer 2004 season on Saturday, April 24th. Registration will be 9:00am - 4:00pm at four of the City's year-round pools.
Los Altos Pool, 10100 Lomas NE, 291.6290, will regiser for Wilson, Eisenhower and Los Altos pools.
Sandia Pool, 7801 Candelaria NE, 291.6279, will register for Sandia, and Montgomery pools.
Valley Pool, 1505 Candelaria NW, 761.4086, will register for Valley, Sunport and East San Jose pools.
The West Mesa Aquatic Center, 6705 Fortuna NW, 836.8718, will register for West Mesa and Sierra Vista pools.
Highland Pool will be closed for renovation this year.
Swimming lessons are offered for infants ages six months to three years old (Parent Tot), children ages three through five (Preschool), and youth ages six and over (Child). Adult lessons are offered at Sandia and Valley Pool. There are four two-week lesson sessions offered beginning June 7th. The Metro Aquatic League offers fun league swimming and water polo competition for the entire summer season. Most lessons are priced at $25 for a two week session. Swim Team and Water Polo are priced differently. Not all pools have every session date and time. For exact information please call the Parks and Recreation office Monday through Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm, 768.5300.

| Thanks, Andrea. Has anyone's child participated in this program? Or in another swim program you could recommend? I have a very water-shy 5yo... |

Kailey and I participated in the Tot class last year at Los Altos. It was FREEZING, even though it was indoors. The water temperature wasn't kept very warm at all and then it was only a 40 minute class every day for 10 working days straight. It was rather difficult. I don't know how another indoor pool would be though for the water temperature.
My older kids have taken private lessons before at Midtown Atletic Club off of Carlisle and Lomas. It was rather cheap compared to some other private lessons I've checked into like Kays All Swim School. I've heard they're good, yet very high priced. The girl at Midtown was charging $15.00 per 30 minute session and we went once a week. We also were not charged any fees by the club as we were only there for swim class.
I wonder if there's any homeschoolers out there with a pool that would be willing to teach classes?
