We just moved here from South Carolina and one legal option of homeschooling was to belong to an association. Most did as this was the simplest option. The associations printed out business type cards that verified the person was a member and you could use this as a teacher ID card for discounts at the local retailers. This included Barnes and Noble, Books a Million, Office Depot and local teacher supply stores, among others. I am curious if any of the stores here offer that type of discount and if you have to have some type of ID to prove you are homeschooling? The discounts were usually for 20%-- better than the discount member card for the book stores. Thanks! Vicki (mom of Matthew 5yrs old) |

Your homeschool notification from the NM State Education department (either the copy you send to them or the letter they send back) is what we use as I.D that we are homeschoolers. These are the only ones that we frequent - Bound to Be Read (20%) Barnes and Noble (I think 20%) Staples -- you sign up as a teacher through their teacher program - discounts on copies and coupons mailed throughout the year) I'm sure there are others that I'm not aware of hth Jacque |

| Both Office Max and Office Depot offer discounts. Office Depot is a percentage off with a card they send to you. Office Max will mail you coupons, usually like $10 off your next $20 purchase. And they come in the mail regularly. You just sign up for their teacher programs...they don't ask for proof, you just write homeschool in the "school" blank, or leave it blank. They just want to be able to solicit you, so I don't think they care |
