As you all know, I currently have the message board set up to email everyone registered whenever someone posts a new thread. (A few of the boards, such as Community Calendar and Advertisements, do not email you.) This was especially useful when we were a smaller group and our board didn't get that many posts.
It seems that the board is so active now, that we're being inundated with notices of new threads every day -- especially those of us who are co-op members, because our member-only board is very active. The question: should we get rid of these email reminders entirely? Or perhaps only for some of the boards, but leave them for others? What do you think?
Your votes are anonymous! I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions, too. |

Hi Elizabeth~ Although I'm a newer member of the board, I thought I'd add my two cents. I like receiving the email notices. If it's something of interest, I follw the link, which is very convenient. If I'm not interested, I just delete the email. Easy enough!
I'm not aware of how many messages go through the Co-op (members - only) section of the boards, as I'm not a member (only due to living in SF ). However, IMHO, the notices that come through the general board are not overwhelming.

I'm with Barb. I'm not allowed to be a member of the co-op, but since I'm allowed to read the general boards I appreciate knowing when there's a new post.
I don't have a lot of time to spend on the computer. Having new threads e-mailed is a big help because I don't have to go looking for things. I wish the other board I'm a member of did the same thing.
I'm also a member of four yahoo e-mail groups and sometimes I get dozens of e-mails per day from them. But I'd still rather have that than have to go surfing the boards. |

Elizabeth,
Is it possible to leave it up to individual member settings: "Yes, please notify of new threads by email" or "No, please do not notify my of new threads by email."

Kari --
Well, sort of. I have instructed the boards to notify users of new threads. I can only turn that on or off globally, so by default everyone has it on. However, individual users can change the setting in their "member center" to stop the notifications. To do so, click the member center button in the upper left. Next, click the "board settings" link along the left. Then check the box that says something like "Opt out of email". |

I really like them also Elizabeth. It's an easy way to indicate what activity has been occuring on the board without having to Login and search for the latest posts- a more time consuming task. I simply delete most of them, but it gives me a heads up on what's being discussed and lets me know if I should login that day. Thanks! Sharon |

If the option exists to opt out, I say leave it on, and let people use their board settings to get rid of them if that is what they want.
