I might have actually found out about this from this board, I can't remember. Anyway, a coach by the name of Fred Cota has started a  sports and recreation program for homeschoolers.  Information can be found at:
http://www.homeschoolsportsandrec.com/

For anyone living in the East Mountain area, he's willing to branch out if there are enough kids to make it worth while.  He said he needs a minimum of 30 kids.  I'm contacting all of the homeschool groups out here.  Let me know if it's something you'd be interested in.  It costs $6 per student per week(2 classes), or $3 per class. There is also a one time $5 registration fee per family.  I didn't ask him, but you might be able to work out a "group rate" with him if you have 3 or more kids. Just a thought.

Does anyone know of any other sport-type activities for homeschoolers?

We are in the east moutains, and I have a 13 year old I'd be interested in doing this with, if it were somewhere out here.  It couldn't be on Fridays, since most of us are in Friday Enrichment Classes in Cedar Crest that day.  If it were on Wednesdays, for us, it would need to be late morning and done before noon.

His website lists all ages, would that include preschoolers?

Kari we are taking the classes on the Westside now.. Matthew does like them.. I would say that they are not for a preschoolers... There are a lot of older kids and for most of the games thus far, he has not divided the bigger kids from the smaller ones..

Here's an email I got a few days ago from Fred about summer enrollment:  Note he is doing an Eastside and a Westside at the same time?!?!  I guess he's got someone to lead the other class....

I know a few homeschoolers out here, and there are a few of us in the group.  Also, there may be a number of East Mountain homeschooling familes who attend Friday Enrichment Classes in Cedar Crest.  That is wrapping up for the year, but if you had a flier or something, it could be handed out to the kids on Friday.

That's a good idea.  I've spoken to the leader of CHEF and she has some contacts for other groups, but she said it would probably be better to wait until after the convention to contact them.  Can you tell me how much longer the Friday enrichment classes will be going on?  I'll be at the Explora class on Monday and if someone is there who goes to the Friday enrichment classes, I could give them to that person.  I was thinking maybe I could post fliers on some bulletin boards around Moriarty, Edgewood, and Cedar Crest as well. I know there are probably quite a few homeschoolers out here who aren't really affiliated with a group.  Word has a way of getting around, though.

I think that next week is the last day for most of the classes.  I know tomorrow is the Spanish final for the older kids.

I know that there is a bulletin board at First Choice, one of the medical offices.  It is a big board, so any flier would need to have something to make it stand out.  I think there may also be boards at Smith's.  I know Raley's, at Tramway and Central has a board.  There is also a Smith's there, and I am guessing that many of the people in the western portion of the East Mountains shop at those stores.

I'll get a flier from you and email it to my list of class participants. However, 4 of the classes have already ended, drama finalizes this week, and math the 2nd week in May. I'll do what I can to get them to everyone, see you Monday.
