Thank you all for your help with my last question,  Here is another.  I have heard that New Mexico has "seat day" requirements, does this apply to homeschool?  If so do you really do school 5 days a week!  I was thinking of a flexible schedule between 3-4days for kindergarten.... at the most!  Is that going to be a problem?

Betcha no school authority is ever going to ask you, so you should probably do whatever works best for you!

We've homeschooled 11 years and I've never heard that one, I wouldn't worry about it.

The law states that we have to homeschool for at least the number of days per year as our school district.... This may be what you are referring to.

I read a quote once that stated "All parents homeschool it's just a matter of degree".  It's so true because just about everything that we do has teaching/learning merit... We homeschool EVERY day whether we crack open a book or not!

Link to below info: http://www.gentlemothering.com/articles/cyndi/educationese.php

Here's a list of Education-Ese terms that I read years ago and although we don't have to keep records here in NM, it's nice to see how we could word our activities to reflect the learning process!    I did have someone confront me at the Post Office once about my child not being in school and I've heard of home visits here in NM so while unlikely, you could be asked by someone from the school district why you're out with the kids or why they aren't "in class"....

Here is a list of things that are educational without sitting at a desk, and their education-ese translation:

Going to the library - research instruction; silent, sustained reading; resource identification.
Going to the store with Mom during the day - consumer math research; health & hygiene instruction.
Going to the homeschool support group - socialization and interaction with peers; socializational development.
Going out to play - low-organized physical education.
Going someplace with the family that's interesting, even if it's on the weekend (wangle it in, and cut back on another day, or call it one school day if there's enough time spent) - educational field trip; resource field trip in conjunction with _____ (name of subject).
doing arts & crafts in relation to any subject - manipulative construction relating to ____ (name of subject)
doing chores along with the family - manual arts; home economics; (and this is way popular right now) time-on-task development; concentration skills.
learning to be good, caring people - values education.
learning to be brave, independent, resourceful people - quantitive, contributive sociological development.

As far as the requirement, it is 180 days per calendar year.  Now as Vicki pointed out, there is no issue getting 180 days since it is not only classroom time and book instruction that count.  Plus, as Elizabeth and Lisa pointed out, they do not check up on this.  As a homeschooler, education is taking place 365 days a year, (366 for leap years).
