Copied from an email I received.

For more information contact Dr. Coonce at 292-9614 or Wendy Falanga at 892-2645.

Phil Coonce will be offering a beginning violin class at Netherwood Church of Christ on Monday and Thursday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 pm (times to be worked out for the class). This is at the same time as the homeschool band so it is convenient for families with children in both musical groups.

Dr. Coonce plays with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and has developed a teaching method which does great job teaching the basics of string instrument playing. He will be offering the beginning class to students for $40 per month per student plus a material fee for his curriculum.

Dr. Coonce and some of his (homeschool) students will be at the Mid-Rio Grande Homeschool Band Open House and used curriculum sale on August 8th from 1-3 at Netherwood Church of Christ, 5101 Indian School Road, NE (on the corner of Indian School and San Mateo, take the south San Mateo exit off I-40 and turn right immediately). For more information contact Dr. Coonce at 292-9614 or Wendy Falanga at 892-2645.

Vicki, this is fine to post, but I'm assuming this is for profit, so please consider putting it under Advertisements next time. I'll be moving this thread in a couple of days, but don't want to break the links for anyone following them through email.

No problem! Here's my rule of thumb:

It belongs in the Advertisements board if: It isn't something you're personally recommending, but just passing along. OR if it's your own or a friend's business that you want to let people know about. Our members don't get emailed when you post a message under the Advertisements board.

But, if you have personal experience with a business and want to recommend it (for example, you just found some a really great Spanish teacher or a new homeschooling book, or whatever), then that can go outside of the Advertisements, especially if you're describing what you liked about it.

I realize there are gray areas. My main goal is to prevent people from getting spam (purely commercial emails) through our forum. That's why the Advertisements board doesn't email when a new thread is posted there.

Vicky,

Do you happen to know if Dr. Coonce accept private lessons?  I'll probably just call him.  Hettar is eager to learn violin.  We would like to take him to UNM.   But if he change his mind, we will loose about maybe $900 for the tuition and materials.  UNM won't refund any amount of the tuition fee.  If we do the private lesson first, the instructor can tell us if he's really interested on it.

Thank you soooo much!   My son has been wanting to learn an instrument, and private lessons cost alot.   We'll be there on Monday for the Fair, and see which instrument he seems to prefer.  That is a VERY good price.

Do you guys also know about the UNM Music Prep classes? You can call Diane Bonnell at 277-8816 for a registration form. Suzuki violin is $445 per year for group & parent (fall)/private (spring) lessons. They also teach guitar, marimba, and piano, orff percussion, and vocal music for a lot less, I think $90 per 14 week session. We've gone to the Saturday preschool music classes at UNM for many years and are impressed with the quality of the teachers there.
