I have a question for anyone currently using the library's Rosetta Stone from a home computer. Ours hasn't been working the past few days. The black Rosetta Stone screen just comes up and freezes. It was working fine for us up through December, then we took about a month off, and now when we try to use it (both my account & my son's, from both our computers), it hasn't worked today or yesterday. Is anyone else experiencing this?

We just started using it yesterday and we love it!  We've had no problems with it (other than my husband trying to learn Chinese, lol).

Seriously though, I logged in and out three or four times yesterday with no problems.

I haven't used it within the last few days, although we do use it.

Sometimes Rosetta Stone freezes for us when 1) hubby has been tweaking the security software, or 2) security software has been tweaking itself (i.e. automatic updates). The last time this happened there was an active pop-up window from the security software behind the Rosetta window and it was preventing Rosetta from fully loading. Of course, I didn't know this until I minimized Rosetta and saw the pop-up there (it wanted to know whether it should allow Rosetta to connect to us). When I clicked yes, Rosetta behaved normally again.

Thanks for the replies. Well, it turns out that every once in a while (like today), Rosetta Stone just won't start, but other days it works perfectly. Maybe it's just that some times are busier than others and there's a maximum number of users.

Hi Elizabeth,
We've always wanted to use it but it has never worked for us.  I figured it was due to our dial-up connection.  (DSL and cable are not available in our area).  We have upgraded our computer though so maybe I'll give it another go in hopes that it was our computer and not dial up speed.

Sharon, I think it probably is dialup speed. However, with a little advance planning, it can still work. You just need to go to your computer and bring up the lesson about 20 minutes before you need it, to give it a chance to download to your computer. Then you shouldn't experience any delays while using the lesson. I just ordered the workbooks that go with Rosetta Stone Spanish (Lat. American), so I'll let you all know what I think of them.
