Hi everyone. Just wanted to let ya know that a new support group based on unschooling has been created. Crystal and Sorscha ( ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Rio Rancho Unschoolers Welcoming and supporting unschooling families within Rio Rancho and the surrounding areas (West side, Corrales, NE Heights, Albuquerque). This group has no religious agenda and its members will have a wide variety of beliefs and non-beliefs. We are founded as an unschooling support group, although we will help people who want to understand unschooling. Our main goal is to foster local friendships with like-minded unschoolers, radical unschoolers, whole life learners, life long learners, within Rio Rancho and the surrounding areas. If you live by the principles of natural learning, respectful parenting, joyful living, freedom and autonomy, living by principles, family first, no panic or criticism, living without fear, resisting enrollment, non-coercive parenting, deschooling ourselves, and letting go of controls, then this group is for you. Hi! We have benn unschoolers for almost 8 years and would be interested in your group. Is the group only for people who live in Rio Rancho or is it just based there? We live in the northeast heights.

Hiya. This group is for all aged unschoolers. The groups base (parkdays) will be in Rio Rancho, but everyone in the greater area is welcome. The group is based on relationships, so attending parkdays at least once per month would be great. It is not geared towards families just talking on a list, but actual in-person situations. So glad to see so much interest in unschooling. Here are more details. Crystal, David and Sorscha +++++++++++++++++++++++ We are the "Rio Rancho Unschoolers” supporting families in Rio Rancho and the surrounding areas. This group has no religious agenda and its members will have a wide variety of beliefs and non-beliefs. We are founded as an unschooling support group, although we will help people who want to understand unschooling. We will not be spending any time talking about the best way to "make" your child learn a particular lesson or skill. Rather we choose to spend our time discussing what we consider to be the best of real life, that is, the learning that happens (for all of us) when it is meaningful and relevant to a particular individual. None of us will be shocked or dismayed if your child watches television or plays video games- indeed, many of us embrace these technologies as part of a rich life. Television, computers, and video games go hand-in-hand with books, magazines, lectures, films and camping - all to be used and enjoyed.
We understood that each family is at a different point in their journey and not everyone on this list will be a radical unschooler, some may be just exploring the idea, others may be relaxed homeschoolers but not quite ready to call themselves unschoolers and yet others may be some combination of these. We will strive to provide support and encouragement wherever each family is in their unschooling journey.
We respect our kids as whole human beings right now and do not see a need to wait for that magic age of 18 to listen to their desires about the direction in which they want to steer their lives. We are here to help facilitate their growth and help them find the answers. We honor and respect our children for who they are. With unschooing our children learn and grow joyfully, by being a part of the real world every day. Listening to our children now, helping them to grow in the directions of their choosing, ensures raising strong, powerful individuals capable of living vibrant, exciting lives. Childhood is not just a preparation for adulthood. It is a valid valuable time in the life cycle in and of itself. It is a time to be enjoyed and relished! We believe in Unlimited Learning and providing a stimulating environment and the tools and desire to explore and learn.
OUR GOAL is to meet for parkdays and fun within the Rio Rancho area. We honor and support our childrens choices for play. Events, classes, fieldtrips, etc. are welcomed but not expected. We know that many other homeschool groups in the area offer many of these wonderful opportunities
OUR MAIN GOAL is to foster local friendships with like-minded unschoolers, radical unschoolers, whole life learners, life long learners, within Rio Rancho and the surrounding areas. If you live by the principles of natural learning, respectful parenting, joyful living, freedom and autonomy, living by principles, family first, no panic or criticism, living without fear, resisting enrollment, non-coercive parenting, deschooling ourselves, and letting go of controls, then this group is for your family.
We hope you join us. The Miller Family Rio Rancho, New Mexico
This is not a school-at-home group. You are welcome to suggest opportunities, books, etc. if someone is requesting. However, this group is not for discussion of curriculum or how to get kids to "do school. Further this is NOT an eclectic homeschooling group. This is an unschooling / radical unschooling group with lots of dedicated families. This list has no ads, no spam, no religious stance policy. Unschooling / Radical Unschooling means something, and that is what this list is about. Debates about the merits of unschooling will not be tolerated. We expect subscribers to be respectful of the others on the list, and we reserve the right to pull subscriptions of those who are not. Note: Many of the above phrases have been borrowed from other wonderful, unschool, radical unschool list on the net. This list thanks those list for their incredible wording that could in no way be duplicated as beautifully. Please search: unschool, radical unschool, for these many other list to enjoy.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Unschooling is learning as a part of life. It allows the child to learn naturally, without adult-imposed "lessons", schedules, or timelines. This list is to offer support, information, perspective, and enlightenment to anyone already unschooling or interested in unschooling.
Unschooling "All I am saying in this book can be summed up in two words: Trust Children. Nothing could be more simple, or more difficult. Difficult because to trust children we must first learn to trust ourselves, and most of us were taught as children that we could not be trusted." -John Holt, in "How Children Learn" From Unschooling-dotcom:
"Unschooling is the confidence to trust that young people will learn what they need from living their lives in freedom and joy. An unschooling parent is a facilitator and cheerleader who embraces life and learning with curiosity and enthusiasm. An unschooled child is free to choose the what, when, where and how of their learning -- from mud puddles to Shakespeare to Spongebob Squarepants! Unschooling is *not* defined as the free learning kids do outside of parent-directed learning, nor is it done on a part-time basis.”
