Does anyone have any info on scout programs in ABQ especially ones that have lots of homeschoolers in them? Or alternatives?

There's Spiral Scouts, which meets Monday evening at the Unitarian Church on Carlisle. They are co-ed. And there's also 4H.

Hey Monica. Boys can also be Lonestars where they participate as Individually Registered Boy Scouts. Just thought I would pass along since Sorscha enjoys being a GS Juliette.

Hi everyone.
Crystal and I are very excited to have organized Girl Scout Juliettes'. What is a Juliette you ask? Well, a Juliette is an Individually Registered Girl Scout, not involved in a Troop. With her families help, she decides and implements the petals, Try–Its, badges, and patches she chooses to earn. Within our Council, she has access to almost all Council and Service Unit events that Girl Scouts has to offer. Please check with your local Service Unit for details, etc. At this time, our Council designates that she does not participate in cookie sales or the mag/nut sale. We are inquiring further with them for details regarding these sales because several other Councils allow Juliettes to participate.
Our plan is to organize events where all the girls can get together. This will be inclusive off all age levels. Within the group, we hope that others will organize smaller, level specific opportunities for the girls. An example of this would be that I, being the mother of a Brownie, would possibly organize a specific fieldtrip geared toward earning a Brownie Try-It where I would invite the other Brownies within the group. Another example would be mothers of a Daisy might possible organize a craft get together for girls earning Daisy Petals. The opportunities are endless and the commitment you have is to help facilitate your daughter in her wishes to earn something. You are also responsible for her safety, permission slips (http://www.girlscouts.org/program/gs_central/forms/), etc. at any event or function. Her commitment is to herself.
If you are wondering why we chose to help organize Juliette activities rather than operate an official homeschool troop, it is for several reasons. Being home learners we all tend to be quite busy. Having a weekly or bi-weekly meeting can be hard to get to. We currently have 2 Daisy’s, 2 Brownie’s, and 2 Juniors and would love to have your daughter(s) also.

Remember that most information that comes out from National Headquarters, Councils, and Service Units, is geared towards Troops. Just replace the word Troop with Juliette.
Girl Scout age levels are:
Daisy (age 5 and 6)

You will need to register your daughter with our Council prior to attending any of our Juliette activities.
To register your daughter in Girl Scouts please follow the below instructions.
1. Go to our Council office at Girl Scouts of Chaparral Council, 4000 Jefferson Plaza NE

2. Go to the front desk and ask to register your daughter as a Juliette Girl Scout.
3. Fill out the Girl Registration form and the Dues Summary form. If you are registering as an adult Girl Scout (which I highly recommend), then fill out the Adult Registration form also.
4. Pay the $10.00 per girl or adult yearly fee.
5. Last but not least, walk across the hall to the Girl Scout Council Shop and have fun. Depending on your finances, you could purchase the following items, age specific handbooks and activity books, uniforms, backpacks, etc. Don’t forget your daughters Juliette patch.
Note: Uniforms are not mandatory in Girl Scouts. It is up to what your daughter wishes to wear. I would suggest the Daisy Smock, Brownie vest or sash, Junior vest or sash to place badges, patches, etc. on.
To find out which Service Unit you are in, go to the link below. Find the school your daughter would be zoned in. Scroll across and you will see the Report Code, Registration Area, Service Unit and an email contact. You will not need to fill out additional paperwork with your Service Unit once you have registered your daughter with the Council. However, you can email the contact to obtain further information regarding “local” events.

Hi, Karen!
My daughter is 6 and is a Brownie with a troop that meets at the council building. I spent several months looking for a troop that did NOT consist only of girls that already knew each other from somewhere else. This troop meets my needs in this requirement, and it's a very active group of Brownies and Juniors. They are open to new members, so feel free to email or PM if you'd like to talk.
I signed her up as a Juliette at first, but was very happy to find her a troop, as being a Juliette didn't fill the bill as to why I was signing her up in GS in the first place--to meet new girls and have a regular, predictable time to see them.
Boy Scouts? I have no clue--my son's not interested, no matter how much I wish he were.

My son is a cub scout at the troop that meets at the Seven Bar North Elementary school. We have found it to be a wonderful group of people and my son enjoys it very much. We have met several people in our neighborhood that we wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. If you are interested in knowing more feel free to call me at 922-8545.
