I'm writing up a summary of the NM homeschooling laws and I have a couple of questions I thought maybe some of you guys could answer.
Age to start homeschooling. Homeschooled kids need to start school at the same age as public school kids. That's normally considered turning age 5 before September 1. But it seems that I once read or heard that you could file some sort of waiver if you didn't feel your child was ready for school (either home or public) up until your child was 7, at which point they were required to start. Has anyone else heard that? Know where I could find such a form?
Immunization waiver form. Although you don't need to submit paperwork to the state, the state requires that you maintain your child's immunization records in your own files. Somewhere they say that if you don't vaccinate, you should instead keep a copy of an "objection to immunization waiver form" instead. Does anyone know if there's a standard waiver form you need to use?
These questions aren't for me, personally. I just wanted to write down a summary of the law so that when people ask, I could point them to a good starting place. Thanks for any help you can give! |

Dont know the first one, but as for the second:
What you are thinking of is Certificate of religioius.conscientious objection to immunization, you get it by writing the Public health Division - Immunization Program Harald Runnels Building 1190 St Francis Dr. PO Box 26110 Santa Fe, NM 87502-6110 and asking for a form. They will mail it to you, you will need to fill it out get it noterized and then send it back. The form is geared for public school so they will ask for name of your childs school, and they are only valid for 9 mo, so they last one school year and they you are suppose to have another one sent. I personally just got one when my kid was little and have never refiled but I can see why a public school would want one each year. Also, you must fill out the form if your kid is not current in any vaccine. If there is even one vaccine that you are not giving you must fill out the form, there is now form for partial vaccinintation.

Oh my goodness, thank you so very much for posting that information! I have been searching for that .pdf document for some time now - it's really buried because the govt. encourages vaccination so much! I really appreciate everyone's response to this.
Question: Dear Elizabeth, do you mind doing a huge favor regarding this thread? Will you please modify the thread title to include "AND VACCINATION LAWS/EXEMPTION" or something of that nature so that others needing this information can easily find it? I know we're not necessarily trying to promote either stance; so, I understand that it must be a neutral title. |

| Carissa, I changed it. But I'm limited to how long the subject can be, so it wasn't exactly as you requested. |

| Thanks for the info about the "Objection to Immunization" form. I notice that it seems that the only objection reason you can give on the form is a religious one...? That seems strange, it doesn't really cover all the reasons people could have for objecting, but I guess that's the one to use in any case. |
