I have a 15 year old nephew who wants to come to the USA to study. He's going to a charter school and is probably be placed on the 10th grade. I have realized that chemistry and physics are not in the curriculum. I want to know if there is any book that you recommend me to get for him to study. I want him to be prepared for university. Any suggestion/advice is welcome. Thanks for your help!

If it's any consilation to you, I took high school chemistry and it didn't prepare me for college at all.  (Just an fyi, I was a double major in biology and physical anthropology with a minor chemistry).  That said, I did well in college level sciences.
However, if you're looking for a good science curriculum to do at home I would suggest at least looking into Apologia.  Now, if you are not Christian or do not believe in intelligent design then this program is not for you - the author is quite clearly a believer in ID.  However, he was also a physics professor at a major university.  His books are well written and very easy to learn from even if there is no previous knowledge of the subject.
If this isn't what you're looking for hopefully some of the others on this board can be of help to you as I haven't seen too many high school textbooks.

Thanks Jo-Anne! Yes, I'm a believer and I'll definetely look into Apologia. It's good to know how things are here. My high school degree is not from the USA either, so I need all the info about how things are done here. Thanks again!
