Hi,

I thought you might be interested in this site for kids' health.  It has a lot of topics that are really geared on a child-friendly level.  Topics are not only about illnesses, but feelings, growing-up stuff...  It really has a ton of stuff!

http://kidshealth.org/kid/feeling/index.html
I copied this from my mom's club.  It is a great science resource when teaching the kids about the human body! Check out the games.  It even has great recipes including recipes for children with food and milk allergies.

Great for map-lovers:

http://nationalatlas.gov/natlas/Natlasstart.asp

Interactive make-your-own map. You can choose the area you want to map, and then choose from hundreds of things to put on your map, including population density, historical info, roads, crime and/or pollution data, and tons more. Unfortunately, it seems to think that the only town in NM is Santa Fe, but maybe I just didn't play with it long enough.

http://www.starfall.com.

This has been a great resource for us.. We are doing the Learn to read section of the website.  It uses different descriptive language for phonics than we've been using, but it seems to still be complementing all that we are doing.  Additionally, you can print out writing pages that correspond to the reading you just completed... Some days Matthew just does one of their lessons for reading and writing.. He thinks it's fun and he's taking a break from "real" work!

http://www.brainpop.com
This site is subscription based, and I was only given about 5 "free" minutes to examine content, but I was favorably impressed. They have a trial period you can also sign up for, but I haven't done that yet. Brainpop offers animated educational movies, quizzes, experiments, comic strips, timelines, printable activity pages, and lesson plans on a very, very wide range of topics in Science, Math, English, Social Studies, and more. What I saw seemed to be high quality content. Subscription for a year is $79 for a family, $135 for a classroom (maybe someday we might be interested in split the cost for our co-op?). I'm looking for some good activities for Eric after he finishes his current favorite science software (I Love Science), and brainpop might be it!

http://www.quia.com
On this site, you'll find hundreds upon hundreds of computer based educational games created by teachers and others. Quia is a subscription-based educational site,, but offers many of the games that their customers have created for everyone to try. Go to http://www.quia.com/shared/index_top50.html to try out some of the free ones, and get an idea of what you could do yourself. The offer an easy way for anyone to take their own material and create games (battleship, hangman, quizzes of all sorts) right on the computer. I have seen math games linked to Battleship, Spanish words linked to Hangman, and concentration-style matching games for Latin roots. Quia's blurb says they have "pioneered the 'create-your-own' concept, giving instructors the ability to create customized educational software online, built around their own course material."

Tree Identification websites:

http://www.arborday.org/trees/treeguide/index.cfm
This one is helpful if you suspect you know the name of the tree. You
can't search by region, but you can search by mature height, soil type, spread,
sun, etc.
http://www.arborday.org/kids/carly/
Try the "Mystery Trees Challenge" -- some of the trees might be there. (Not
comprehensive, but easy, easy, easy (and kid-friendly fun) to use.  Also try "What Tree is That?" and then "Click Here to Launch The Animation" - After watching this and trying a few samples you should be ready to use any printed/online tree guide you might already have.  There's also lots of other fun stuff on this site,
informational/educational...

http://www.publicbookshelf.com/public_html/A_Year_in_the_Wonderland_of
_Trees_/
This online book has a chapter on tree identification and much more...
