Does anybody have any experiences with the local
Educational Resource Center located at 12201 Comanche?

Terryl Walters 292-3156 is the contactperson.

Is there anything useful/applicable there for any of us?
In advance, thanks for your info!

Our web site has just a short blurb:

Quoted Text
Tijeras Foundation's Christian Education Resources.
Provides K-12 curriculum lending library, SAT testing, spelling bees and science fairs. One-time nonrefundable $20 fee. Visit http://www.tijeras.org/tjerasERCHome.asp.

I think there's a lot more info at the web site about what they offer. I've never been there.

Interesting!  Thanks!  I've recently heard that they're affiliated with CAPE now, too.

Other Resources:
ERC offers resources in such areas as sports, music, computer training, and tutor referrals.

I don't know anything about the resource cetner on Commanche, but I use the YWCA resource center affliated with Carino at 210 Truman.  They have a whole array of books, games, puzzles, etc.  I've found all the available resources very useful for my children in regards to homeschooling.  They don't have too much for older children who are probably 12 years old on up.  Their office number in case you have any questions is 254-9922.

Renee, can you check the material out or do you need to use it there? Do you need to be a YMCA member to use it? I could call them, but I thought you might know. Thanks!

I have, or maybe *had*, an ERC membership.  You're right Carissa, they've recently changed things around.  They used to be operated by The Tijeras Foundation, but now it's CAPE.  I don't remember the details, but instead of the $20 lifetime membership, I believe there's an annual fee now.  It isn't much if you're already a member of CAPE, which I'm not.  I think for non-members it's $25?  I'm not sure.  But I can call Terryl and find out.  I've talked with her many times before.  She is very sweet, knowledgeable, and helpful.

I'm sure they would welcome to you go in and look around before deciding if you wanted to become a member.  Terryl gave me a "tour" of sorts my first time in there.  It's kind of a small place, but they've got a lot of stuff packed in there!  Some is available only to use there, but most of it can be checked out, even for extended periods.

I'm going to be dropping by there this afternoon, so I will get the scoop on the new membership situation and let you know.

Gretchen, when you find out, I'll update the info on the website about the resource center, because I guess what it says now is wrong.

Here's the basics:

Instead of a lifetime membership, membership must now be renewed annually.

You may either get a membership with the ERC directly for $25 per year, or if you are a member of CAPE, your ERC membership is free.  CAPE membership also apparently costs $25 per year.

I really don't know anything about CAPE.  Does anyone else?

Again from our web site (so it may well be wrong!):

Quoted Text
CAPE-NM: Christian Association of Parent Educators - New Mexico

Thanks for the info on ERC. I will update our web site.
