My husband recently found a distance learning program offered through Texas Tech University and it looks like it might be a viable alternative for us.  However, because it is a distance learning program for k-12, I was trying to figure out if NM would still consider it homeschooling or what.  The problem is that I can't find anything on the PED website about distance learning other than university level courses.  Does anyone know how this might affect our homeschooling status if we choose to follow this course?  Does anyone else use a distance learning program for their kids?  How do y'all like it (pros/cons, please.)

Thanks.

Katy,

You can use distance learning courses as your homeschool curriculum without putting your "homeschool" status in jeopardy. I went through this with the board of education last year when I was considering a similar program that is run through Stanford University. Even following an on-line curriculum, you still fall into the role of teacher, especially for little ones.

Thanks a lot, Shari.  I am glad to see that other universities are doing this as well.  I had tried to find some online, but hadn't had any luck.  I'll look into the Stanford program as well.

Thanks again.

Katy,

The Stanford program is for gifted children. You have to submit an IQ test score along with recommendations etc....
