What an interesting article to ponder!   http://v.mercola.com/blogs/public_blog/Body-Absorbs-5-Lbs-of-Make-Up-Chemicals-Per-Year-23344.aspx

Naturopathic doctors recommend, "If you wouldn't eat it, please don't put it on your skin."   Why leaves us wondering . . . "well, what can we use then?   If you want some recommendations, consider visiting http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/index.php?nothanks=1 .   Also, consider using tried-and-true (cheaper!) products like:   olive/coconut oil for body lotion, various essential oils and carrier oils, Dr. Bonner's liquid soaps, white vinegar for cleaning anything, and paraben-free/sodium-laurel-sulfate-free hair products & soaps, baking soda for hives, cornstarch for diaper rash, etc.    As for a good make-up, I am still looking . . . let me know what YOU find!

(I am currently studying to be a naturopath; so, I welcome comments that we may simultaneously learn from!)

These are just my musings and I will not be held responsible if you decide to experiment with alternatives . . . although you are free and wise to do so!    enjoy!

(from the article)

Women who use make-up on a daily basis can absorb almost 5 pounds of chemicals into their bodies each year.

Some of the compounds present in make-up have been linked to side effects ranging from skin irritation to cancer.

One class of cosmetic chemicals which could be dangerous are parabens. Traces of parabens have been found in breast tumor samples.

Another chemical, sodium lauryl sulfate, can cause skin irritation.

Nine out of ten women also use out-of-date lipstick and mascara, which can be a breeding ground for harmful bacteria.

Many women use more than 20 different beauty products a day. The effects of these multiple combinations of chemicals are largely unknown.
