Mars!
Larry Crumpler, Ph.D.
Tuesday, January 16, 2007  7 p.m.

Celebrate the 3rd (Earth) year on Mars!  Three years have passed since the Mars Exploration Rovers landed on the Red Planet and began sending back amazing images and data.  The mission has exceeded expectations beyond the planner’s wildest dreams.  Opportunity is exploring Victoria Crater and Spirit is just “breaking winter camp” and moving into the Martian spring dust storms (just like New Mexico spring winds).  Dr. Crumpler is still on the Mars Science Team, still having the time of his life exploring the geology of another planet.  He will share what has been learned over 1,000 Mars sols (Mars-days) on two sides of that distant planet, and talk about new discoveries and new science.

Larry Crumpler is Research Curator of Volcanology/Space Science at the Museum with his doctorate in planetary geology.  He has recently co-authored several articles in major science journals about the geology of Mars.
