Hi - I finally found time to read the messages and respond. This will be our first year homeschooling and although I am not worried too much about educational activities, I would like her to be able to play with some other kids sometimes. She just turned seven this July, so if there is anyone who would like to get together for just plain play dates or if field trips sound more appealing let me know. I don't mind if our kids aren't the same age, but would rather the age range stay under 8 years. We could take turns meeting at parks by our homes for an hour or meet at the zoo, museums, botanical gardens, etc. once a month or so. We are free after noon on Mon or Fri, or all day Tue or Thurs, maybe weekends. Let me know.
I think meeting at parks is a great idea, esp as the weather starts to turn a little cooler. Do you want to suggest a park and day? We're typically free mornings Tue-Fri. Afternoons aren't as good, unless it's pretty late (say 3:30 or later) because I have a 1 year old who likes her nap.
Has there ever been a designated park day? Say, every other Tuesday at 10 am, at the High Desert Park, or something like that? Then, whoever is interested knows when and where, and they can go or not as they choose? -Kari
Kari, We haven't designated a park day yet, but need to do so soon now that the weather is getting warmer. We had park days last year until the weather got cold.
Here's the deal: Every week in the newsletter, we've been asking for a volunteer to coordinate a park day and so far no one has volunteered (hint, hint). All the coordinator(s) needs to do is (1) name a park (or parks) and a day (or days) during the month when their family will be there. Once that's done, we'll publish it in the calendar and the weekly newsletter and that'll be our park day.
Anyone reading this who has a favorite park, please let me know if you'd like to be a park day coordinator this summer (one time only, or monthly -- either is fine). It's a great way to volunteer for the co-op.
Elizabeth, I had sent you an email, just after I read one of the newsletter requests for someone to organize a park day. I volunteered to organize a park day, but I guess you never got my message. I just assumed the need had been filled, since I hadn't heard back from you. Sorry. I guess I should have followed up.
I'd still be willing to do it. I would be willing to do one a month through the summer months. I have to check my calendar to see what dates I will be able to do it, but it would be at one of the east side parks. Our favorites are High Desert (east of Tramway, on Academy), Holiday (on Comanche, south of Tramway) and Piedro Lisa (sp?) (east of Tramway, on Menaul).
