A friend of mine from MOMS Club (do I talk about that club too much?) is looking for volunteers to write up profiles about cancer survivors for a non-profit organization. My kids are too young, and I'm way too over-extended myself, but I thought it might be a good opportunity for someone (or an older child) to brush up on the old English composition skills and do some good at the same time.
Here is Wen Lin's message. If you or anyone you know is interested, please contact her at gonglewskijohnd@qwest.net.
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone is interested in writing up profiles for cancer survivors. This is for the quarterly newsletter for people living thru cancer, a non-profit organization. I started volunteering 11 years ago after my father passed away from cancer, as a way to honor his memory and everyone else who has had to battle cancer.
I know a lot of you are great writers, just from the writing in your e-mails. The interview takes about an hr. (in person) and can be done via phone/e-mail as well (i've tried to interview in person when i'm in town because it is helpful to me to be able to see interviewees in their natural habitats).
It takes me about an hr to get the article written/re-written/edited and then I send it to the interviewee to review for changes and it's done. The organization would be grateful if one article is all you ever do for them. I've learned a lot from doing this. I'm hoping some of you will think about volunteering despite your hectic lives. Or maybe you know someone who might be interested in volunteering? Your help is appreciated. Thanks so much.
