Hello everyone Dawn here again.  Well we made it here last Thursday and we are still getting settled.  Now that I know exactly where we are located it might be easier for people to determine where we are living.  We are living in Blossom Ridge subdivision in Anderson Hills.  We are right off of Coors by the Brand-new Wal-Mart that has not opened yet.  We have driven around ALOT the past few days and like some have already mentioned I do not mind driving 20- 30 minutes to get to places.  We really like the Cottonwood mall area, which seems to be where we have spent most of our time the past few days.

So is anyone in this area?  My children are culture shocked right now and really wanting to make friends.  I can't say I blame them I am also wanting adult conversation.  Again I have three very energetic boys, ages 8, 7 and 14 months.

Our household goods get here on Wednesday but I hope to be settled and unpacked and organized by this weekend.

Anyone interested in getting together?  Any summer activities going on?  I am really looking forward to meeting everyone!  Are there coop activities over the summer?  I know it says to become official members you have to attend an activity.  I can not seem to get that area of the main website to work for me, so does anyone have that information?

Hey Dawn, glad you made it in one piece! We have lots of activities going on this summer. There's a park day coming up on the west side of town this week. You can get info about upcoming activities from Audra at 797-8989 or Amy at ahomeschoolcoop@yahoo.com. See you soon!

Glad you made it safe and sound!  Cottonwood mall area is our home away from home!

We are planning on going to the park this Thursday.  You may need a break after dealing with the household goods!!  Hope to see you there!

Welcome, welcome, welcome, Dawn!!  I'm so glad you had a safe trip here.  We live in North Albuquerque Acres, which is North of the Cottonwood Mall area, but very close driving wise.  Some homeschooling friends and I meet at [location & time removed by moderator. Please contact Juliana for details by clicking the email button below].  There are lots of other boys the ages of your sons, including my own who are 8 & 6.  There are plenty of toddlers too for your little guy.  My daughter is 22 mths.  We'd love to see you there!  If you can't make it, please give me a call anyway.  I'd love to chat with you about the area and I would be more than happy to keep the kids for you for a day so you can unpack in peace!  We just moved in ourselves and I couldn't have done it without lots of help from my friends.  I'm still not nearly unpacked!  Anyway, please give me a buzz and we'll talk more.

Your friend in homeschooling,
Juliana

I will definately try to make that, it will be great for the kids to get out of the house.  Especially with the hussle and bussle of the movers coming in and out.  I am currently trying to find directions to get there.  So basically tomorrow at 1 right?  COnsider me there.

My cell phone has been broken and my replacement should be here today.  YAHOO!  We do not use landline service and only use our cells.  So I will try to give you a call later this afternoon once I get it charged!

I look forward to meetin you and others.

Dear Dawn,

Here are directions from Cottonwood Mall.  If you can't call, feel free to email.  I check pretty regularly throughout the day.  Also, the second number I gave you is my cell phone so you can call if you can't find it.  Look forward to meeting you all tomorrow-don't forget the sunblock!!

I'd like to bring my kids by sometime, if it would be o.k. We haven't officially jioned the co-op yet but we are planning on doing so soon. My kids are always up for meeting new friends. I have 2 boys, ages 12 & 10 (althought the 12 yr old usually doesn't go anywhere) and 3 girls, ages 14, 8, and 2.

Are you speaking of the park across from the community center with the pool?

Thanks,
Jennifer

Friends: I hate to be a damper on this, but we have explicit privacy rules on this forum (which is open, public, and freely available to stalkers and child molesters as well as homeschoolers...). They are stated at the top of the forum:

Quoted Text
Discussion boards open to the homeschooling public. For your safety, please do not post locations where you and your children will be. Pass along that information by email or phone instead.

I'll leave your posts up for a day or so, but then I must remove them. Again, I apologize for checking the free flow of information, but I don't feel comfortable hosting a board that describes exactly where and when your children will be somewhere.

A better way to invite someone to an activity is to say, for example, "We meet at a park near Cottonwood Mall every week. We'd love to have you join us. Give me a call at ... or email me at ... and I'll give you the details."

I'm so sorry about the posting of the details.  I didn't realize that was the policy, but it certainly is a wise one.  I feel like the big dummy!    Anyway, I hope to see as many there as possible and in the future I'll be much more prudent.

Juliana

P.S. Jennifer, give me a call.  It sounds like our kids are all close in age (I have 5 also.)

Juliana, don't feel bad, it happens frequently. I'm sort of embarrassed to have to be policing the board like this, but most of us here think it's the safest policy. On the private co-op member part of our board, we're much more forthcoming!

Hi there,

I know I am kind of the odd one out but I would love to meet some new people.  I only have one wonderful child an boy who is 9 months.  I am getting a little burned out on being at home all the time so if it would be ok I would love to meet people.  Please let me know.  I live in Rio Rancho across from intel.

Thank you all for your replies.  We were not able to go to any events last week due to unpacking and adjusting.  My boys were disappointed, so we are hoping to get together this week/ weekend with people.

Email me if you are interested in meeting somewhere for the kids to get together, or you are more than welcome to come to my place lots of toys and a trampoline!!

Looking forward to meeting some people!!

Hi all,

I hope I finally have this right.  Just not used to this type of board.  We have recently taken our 11 year old daughter out of Public School.  Now homeschooling her and looking for social activities/field trips, etc.

I have some ideas for local field trips that are more non-traditional such as visiting a person who does rainwater harvesting at his home using Permaculture methods.

Later,
Leon
