I just wanted to introduce myself and my family.  My husband, Andrew and I have 2 sons -Brandon,4 and Aioden, 2 months.  We have spent the last year investigating schools for Brandon.  We have looked at public and private; traditional to montessori.  We have came to the conclusion that homeschooling is the best option for him, at least for early elementary education.  Brandon seems to think so too- after seeing all these schools he is hungry to learn, but hungrier still to be around other kids.  Other kids is the only benefit I am seeing with a traditional school setting, though 30+ kids at a time seems like too much for any kid to be around at one time!   So I am now starting the quest to not only homeschool, but build a community for our sons.

We have a four year old boy, an almost 3 year old girl and a 17 month old, too investigated schools and decided on homeschooling, just wanted to let you know you are not alone, we too are looking ways to hook up with other young homeschoolers

Hi guys! A couple of years ago I was in the same boat -- knew I wanted to homeschool, but finding it hard to hook up with others with young kids. Well, hooking up with other families of young children wasn't too hard, but if the families weren't intending to homeschool, the other kids would keep leaving the playgroup to go off to nursery school. It was difficult to find any homeschooling groups for young kids -- the ones I contacted said that they were basically for school-age kids but younger siblings were welcome. At that time, I had a three year old and an infant, so we didn't fit the bill.

I'm so happy to be part of the co-op, because there are lots of young kids in it -- and more all the time because everyone keeps having babies . I think the median age of kids in the group is about 4 years old.

Anyway, you're welcome to join us in the co-op if you're interested in that sort of thing. Either of our membership coordinators, Audra (797-8989) or Amy (ahomeschoolcoop@yahoo.com) can give you details of our upcoming activities. Amy's been on vacation, so I'm not sure if she's unpacked and answering email yet, but either Amy or Audra would be happy to help.

Thanks Elizabeth!  I sent an email a few days ago.

Lisa, it sounds like you have your hands full!  it takes most of my energy with just a 4 yo and baby!

You two have come to the right group.  This is the only group that really fits my kids ages.  My daughter is a little on the older side, but we have not had a problem finding groups with kids her age, (although we have not yet found one that I like as much as this one).  However, this group continues to expand and is starting to get more older kids as well.  Soon, I feel there will be something for everyone.  I would highly recommend coming to a Co-Op event and seeing if it is the right fit for your families.

Look forward to meeting you.
