I received a call from a lady wanting to share her art with the homeschool community and do some classes for kids ages 5 and up. I am just wanting to see if there is enough interest within our group to try and arrange a class like this. Please post here if you are interested and what ages of kids you would have attending.
I have included the information she sent me below. Thanks, Audra
The three "W's" : Who? My name is Megan Precott and I am an artist and instructor who has been teaching art for over fifteen years. I have always chosen to create art classes outside the public school system which I find restrictive and empty when it comes to many of their programs. As a result I have created art programs where none existed before with great success. My most recent instructing was in Connecticut where I started a visual art program in a private academy and Red Cross Shelter for children. I was also hired by the Connecticut Commision of the Arts to teach and study the effect of art on middle school students. I have tremendous experience with elementary school children and have taught private students that ranged in age from five to fifteen. What? I am looking for homeschoolers who are interested in learning technical and creative art skills. No matter what previous ability the child may have, my classes start everyone on the same foundation- I focus first on drawing (pencil, charcoal, ink) then we move to pastels, painting, graphic design, color theory, and collage. We start with three dimensional drawing that even my youngest students could comprehend and the ball starts rolling from there! My goal is to bring together a group of children who want to learn real art skills and techniques in a fun and non-intimidating way. I have many wonderful success stories of students who found a talent and ability to draw and create art that they didn't even know they had! Where? Because I do not currently have my own studio space the groups would have to meet at a parent's home. Perhaps the participating families could take turns? Because of this, the groups should be limited to 5 and I am able to go to more than one location a week. The classes would run for one hour (ages 5 and 6) or one hour and fifteen minutes (ages 7 and up.) The cost of each class can be figured out by how many children we have in each group. I charge $50 per class (no matter how long) which breaks down to 10.00 per student per class if we have 5. For private lessons I charge $30.00 per lesson so this is a pretty good discount. There will also be a one time fee of ten dollars per student for paper and supplies.
