ALBUQUERQUE (January 19, 2006) – The NM Commission on Status of Women will host Believe in New Mexico Girls 2006 on Friday, April 7 and 8, 2006, at the University of New Mexico Student Union Building. This event is open to all New Mexico girls, ages 13-18. It is limited to the first 500 girls who register. Registration is now available!
Topics included in this informative conference include:
· Suicide Prevention, Racism, Internet Safety and Relationship Violence Prevention
· Self-Esteem, Journaling, Anger Management and Bullying
· Healthy Body Image, Self-Defense, Physical Fitness, and Life Choices
· Girls in Math and Science, Funding College, Goal Setting and Building Better Friendships
The conference is a follow-up event to the Commission’s nationally recognized 2005 Year of the New Mexico Girl conference. Additionally the conference will feature Isis Sapp-Grant from Youth Empowerment Mission in New York as the keynote speaker.
The Commission is joined in their efforts by the Girl Scouts of Chaparral Council, NM Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central New Mexico, New Mexico Teen Pregnancy Coalition, NM MESA, Office of African American Affairs, Peacemakers, Soroptimist International of Albuquerque, University of New Mexico Women’s Resource Center, and New Mexico Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
